I'm Down With Breaks and Beats, First and Foremost, but I'm also, down with Keyboards But just in the Context of what I'm doing. If you Want a Squeaky Clean top 40 track go those kind of Producers, but if you come to Stress know what you are getting: THAT OL' REAL..........

Once again very wack assesment of what is "real" hip hop. Do you cats listen to what you say? Is it only one way to make music? If I did't go to a private school with uniforms then I didn't get a real education? Course that ain't true. In other words do what you do but don't put down the next man cause they don't do it the same way.

Well, there are pretty much three types of Hip-Hop producers I'll explain each:

"The Vinyl Head"---these guys spend hours and days extracting drum hits, strings, horns, breaks, whatever until they have insane libraries of samples from old records. they travel the country looking for limited and private press vinyl that no one else will have. Most common gear is an Akai MPC, either an MPC30, MPS60, or the newest models available. The E-MuSP1200 is also popular for the ultra gritty sound. The They pride themselves in the secret records that they get there sounds from. It's very hard to make gritty sounding Hip-Hop without this. While people try to get vintage recording gear, these guy are using sounds recorded 40 years ago with obsolete gear and those true old school techniques. These are the guys that consider Hip-hop production an art of collage and preservation of music long lost and forgotten about. Think about it...some old soul crew that struggles there hole lives trying to get a record deal records an album with all the money they have, press 100 copies to send out as demos, and fail. They never got anywhere and that was there only mark in the vast world of recorded music. It get forgotten about until guys like DJ Shadow, RJD2, Cut Chemist, etc. dig this stuff up and make a new song out of parts of it. Really...it's a beautiful thing...

"The New Schooler"---These guy use keyboards and sound modules. They make beats like electronic artists do. An MPC or a computer sequencing outboard gear. This is the sound of the newer fresh sounding clear textured sounds like Jay-Z and DMX. Swizz Beats comes to mind with this kind of beatmaking.

"The In-Between"---These guys combine synths, drum machines, and sound modules along with old sounds sampled from records. I really like this style personally. The RZA is the king of this! It combines clean leads and bass with old drums. I love it.

"The Lopping *****"---These guys use Fruity Loops, Acid, and whatever cheap software their $400 PCs can run. Sure these softwares can be great for producers who like to make there own loops and arrange them in one of these audio sequencers...but I said their OWN LOOPS! These jack-asses that buy Fruity Loops for $100 and slap together some of the loops already in there and think they are instant producers are IDIOTS. They are the lowest of the low in the chain of music. Ali-G is a better musician than these dolts. They have zero skill, talent, or patience. They don't want to learn how to EQ and compress that kick drum to make it thump, they take an entire 4 bar beat loop some one else made and duplicate it for 4 minutes. These people should die.

i used to be into that shit, like just using wax and "keepin it real", but i dont give a shi* bout that no more. I hate keyboard beats but no one is wrong for makin music no matter what it is. If its wack it will fade away in the long run. But ur alwasy gonna have fans no matter what it is. Boombap, Dirty South, West coast, trip hop, all that shit has audiecnes. To be worried or concerned bout genres, is a big waste of time. I make music like philly stress is talkin bout but i aint gonna sit here and be like the neptunes or lil jon aint real. Personally i think that shit is trash but thats my opinion. Theres a lot of cats that think primo and pete rock are trash, and manny fresh is god. So to each his own.
