What would be the best sound module to get to add to ASR-10, MPC2000XL setup. Was thinking Motif Rack, but really need some input before I spend my chips. I just dont want to be pissed off for not getting what I need/looking for in a sound module the first time to the store. Please help me out on this one. I've done the research on all types but still would much rather get some opinions, Thanks!

Personally I use the Proteus 2000 EMU with the Mophat chip, but its getting a bit dated for me cause now I am making my sounds manually and getting them from other sources and fillding with them too see what i can find.

1. How much u wanna spend?

2. What type of sound you looking for? besides saying hiphop because hip hop emboddies elements of all music.

Someone else in hear would have more info for you but I say that you got to experiment, like I been messing around the Malstrom Synth in Reason 2.0 to get some nice sounds!

Stick to your choice! I own a ES7, it's a beast! Sound REAL GOOD! You'll have new sound for next decade, others racks are... WACK (xcept FantomXR)

Mayfield. you already got the asr. why not buy some sounds from that dude on eBay, hardsoundz.com, i dont know if hes still up, but ive had a motif, mophatt, and a trtion, and some of the patches i got from him were better instrument wise, sound wise than any of the stock sounds on the rompler keyboards, the asr can function like a rompler if you hook up the discs you need plus youd save hella money.

In term of sound quality/quantity Motif kills dem Proteus/E-mu and Triton  !!! Xcept for XR, that feature sampling engine (not playback)...

why specifically do you want the rack? who is your favorite producer-or who do you want to produce like?(not saying copy him, but if you dont know what module you like, you do know who you like)

each rack sort of fits differant needs. I mean, if you sample alot, and only really need some hot basses, then the mophatt is nice. but you can also add some other synth/instruments to spice up a track, they all will do well. But each one has differant characteristic for types of tracks...granted you can turn each one into your own style, but i definately think outa the box each one shines differantly.

Examples:

the motif out of the box is hot, you can use good presets, it has decent drums and all round good box. Very good pianos, electric pianos....NIce for jazzy and R&B.

the triton is very easy and fun to manipulate, and can produce very intuitive hotness. Its easiest to program huge synth patches. Its filters arent that great. Its effects are the best out of any of them. If you like west coast i think this is a good choice...but can be thin at times.

the mophatt has the best basses, and best filters. Overall it performs great midi wise....and is straight forward. Plus you get good drums. You can filter the drums, then sample them, then layer them, etc. The basses are good stock, but you can apply some filter to them to give them character and to make them blend well. Overall all the sounds sit in amix well....but there isnt alot of "realism".....youll need to get atleast one expansion board down the road, otherwise you will want more after a while...that is unless all you really want are bass and synthy sounds. If you want more strings, or a piano, or some more sounds, add the expansion boards. The sounds of the zr76 board is nice.. THis is a nice addition to a sampling setup that needs some bass sounds.

roland xv is new, and is totally fresh. Roland sounds to me are very sharp and punchy, good for some hype midwest/dirty south stuff. THe roland sounds are more crisp and harder hitting than triton sounds.

All in all, i think you could do any style with anyof them, but some of them are easier to get the sound that you desire. Let us know who you want to produce like..........if you still cant decide, stick with your initial instinct; as it is usually right for you.

Roland XV ain't new, Fantom XR is...Roland more crispy than Korg (Triton)? :? not to me... Triton is the **** you can ear on Lil J. products, nah really "smooth"!!!
I own the XV (+ the Hip-Hop card, and others) & the ES7, man I sold my Triton R. last year without any regret, and I feel like E-mu's sound a little flat, like Doveski said, I will buy the patch for my sampler if I need them.
Motif's the new workstation standart, and you'll have all sounds you need under hands.

yeah i meant XR^^^^^

crispy as in compressed, or just something about it, more "in your face", maybe its because i dont own one, so when i play with it at GC im suprised by its newness.

kilowax, how do you like your setup vs the triton? I mean, as far as efficiencey goes, and workflow, How does the motif, and xv work with midi setups, and multis controled from the MPC? are they compareble to triton or better?

I mean, Motif sounds're clear and powerfull, yeah more like "IN YOUR FACE", and you've got a real control on sounds when using the board. The XV is just spec. to me, it not sound "better" den de Tri, but I've got every sound I need with it, the Hip-Hop card is real good among others, and yes i really LIKE the Rld "all -purpose" type of sound/module. I'm going for a XR as an additional, and no I'm not in any Down-South production type!!!
Man Triton's sounds are worn-out, every body use dem (preset!), for all dat it's a strong piece of gear! It was cool when came out, but know comes new standard...
