Switched from a 2500 to a 4000 today

I've transferred several GB of samples in one go via AKsys without issues. The only issue I had was getting it working in the first place!

You also get near full remote access to your 4K to build kits and programs, so it's really not that limiting at all.

The USB drive on the front of the machine is your friend... use it if you need to.

Windows 7 Ultimate's XP Mode and 32 bit Windows 7 computers are the ones where you'll have AkSys crash. One's a total emulated OS and the latter is definitely having some issue with something in the USB stack changing from 98/XP as it's always a USB disconnect error.

These were my personal experiences with 2 Windows 7 computers I have, on an XP or '98 install AkSys works fine. On OS X I know you have to have an older OS revision to run AkSys, but some people here reported better stability with vmware running Windows on OS X. Their results sounded a lot better than what I encountered using a native Windows virtual OS. (Or run a virtual Snow Leopard...)

Coz is dead on about the USB port. You can always just load the whole machine's memory from the stick and save it all to the internal HD. I actually had covered that port using a quicklock stand for a while, won't be covering it up again.

It gets close enough to this feature by arming it to take a sample from the analogue inputs. Sequencer can be running no problem, I do it all the time with a guitar so I can jam around with patterns.

Thanks for all of the replies. I have transferred gigs at time through the aksys and while it took a little while it did it with no problems. It's just faster if you transfer less although you'd have to be in front of the screen to keep things moving. Overall, I'm more than pleased with the 4k. I had a chance to get it when I first got the 2.5k and I wish I would've done so then. It's a beast!!

I've had more time to mess around with it and I see why there's so much love for it. A few things are different but once I figured out the terminology and where things were it's been a breeze. I never knew why keygroups was such a big deal but once you have it you realize why and the control it offers. JJ OS on a 2.5k definitely makes it worth it for someone who has one and doesn't want a tank like the 4k is. After having both the 4k is definitely my choice for the feature set alone.

Also, I'm on a mac with os 10.8.2 and the aksys doesn't work on it in case anyone asks. I have Vista running through Parallels with no problem so it's not a deal breaker. If anyone does have running through the Mac side please post how so we all will know. Thanks!
