Is Komplete 9 worth getting?

well also now... we are getting insane synth pluggins that are way more sophisticated then they were in 2005.. ones that take spectrums from jpegs.. and do all sorts of crazy stuff... but also they have tones of params to mess with of all sorts. Not just ones that are trying to be digital renditions of hardware synths... they take those ideas and cram tons of other stuff on them.

pretty sweet.. vsts have sonically come a long way since malstrom, imageline's dx10, or things like that.

No doubt. Like I mentioned earlier there's not much left for NI in the VA/FM more traditional stuff. Now you see stuff like Razor and I'm sure now that they've made a modeled Minimoog style synth they'll go back to more experimental stuff.

I love it all. For that convincing VA I use Xils Lab. For that more Virus VA I use Dune/Tone 2 stuff/Sylenth. And then there's amazing things like Omnisphere. Camel Alchemy can actually take any .sfz patch and load it with all the FX and modulations available. I converted the Entire E-MU and Ensoniq libraries. So fun to take those super well known sounds and go all outer space.

Truly amazing times to do stuff this even only spending $200-$1000 bucks, putting the computer cost aside.

A little off topic, but hey NI make a synth that loads sampler patches too.

im trying to think if i've tried razor.. hmm. I cant remember if that was one I had. I have messed a bit with predator... and while it's good... I dont see what the insane amounts of hype is about. Some friends of mine were really making a huge deal about that one talking about how insane and great it is... and I checked the presets it comes with.. it was okay, way better when you built upon a preset making your own sound..... I like it, but I dont think it's as mind blowing as I was told it would be. I thought the harmor one was cool because of how much stuff it had built in.. that was pretty neat... it sounds good, but it takes long to really get in the exploration on that one to really find a new sound every time you want to use it. I like the things you can do with it though.. I thought that was innovative to me since I didn't see many of those features before unless I thought to program it manually myself. I thought the autogun was cool with the trillion presets.. but I just didn't like the sound of that one.. same with beepmap, awesome idea... result is not too great IMO. but hell, broomstick bass is **** awesome and I used the shit out of that pluggin... even though it's all presets of actual branded instruments with the real brand names written on it for most of the presets (everything from hagstrom basses to arp2600..)

Komplete is a great value for your money one of the best values if not the best value out there. is it the best in the business? That depends on who you ask. I like the content but as far as workstations go I actually prefer sampletank over Kontakt which I know most people think is crazy but that's just me. However I really like Kontakt too as well as the additional kontakt libraries you can get in Komplete. FM 8 and Massive are dope as well. I would say get it because it offers a lot of functionality but for me I don't think I could only use NI instruments for beats because some are great some are good and some are okay. I don't like the A-200 wurlis in Kontakt for example I prefer Lounge Lizard, Reason or Sampletank Wurli sounds or even the Arturia Wurlitzer V over the A-200 but $400 for 110 gb of sound is crazy.

one of the komplete versions came with electrik piano I believe... and it's not too bad. It covers a lot at least.

That one is long gone along with Pro-53, B4II, and some FX. In the EP and Organ cases those sounds ended up in Kontakt with basically the same level of sound shaping tools.

I'm inclined to agree on preferring Lounge Lizard or something to some of keys patches in Kontakt. But as far as the broader point, the Kontakt library is the modern version of a bundled CD with a rack sampler 20 years ago, so you gotta be pretty happy all around.

I do sometimes have pause with how often you big up Sampletank over on the FB page KevWest (I'm J.Riley over there). But I have all the IK plugs and once I run them through 2 or 3 VST's they are still pretty useable, so I see your point.

ah okay I didn't know that.. im guessing they did the same with the akoustik piano one too?

The Acoustic Piano folder in the Kontakt stock library is probably the source samples from the old standalone/VST one. They also in Komplete give you a Upright, Berlin Grand, Vienna Grand and a NY grand. All separate sample sets. That's in 7, I skipped 8 as now 9 will be a better deal for me to finally buy Ultimate Komplete. I had too much of the content already to make it worth it and waited for this years adds.

I bought Komplete 8 a week ago and I really enjoy it. I also made sure to upgrade to Komplete 9 because I enjoy the experience so much.

Definitely worth the $ . When I get sampler's block I just run through Komplete and am usually inspired within 10 minutes.

I'm praying they do an 'End Of Summer' sale for Komplete 9 like they did for 8 last year. My buddy got the crossgrade to 8 Ultimate for like $400. Tryin' to go from 8 to 9 Ultimate like that .

One other nice thing with Kontakt is people have multi-sampled whole Virus's and Motifs and formatted them and uploaded them. And things like ChykSys Translator and Extreme Sample Convertor let you convert just about any format to Kontakt.

Alot of NI presets especially on Synths are just weird to me. The real world stuff is very useful but I might be biased because I know how to make synth sounds.

well I guess maybe they are to showcase what the synth can actually do.. what textures, tones, etc.. But you gotta do something to them if you use them.

Making your own is good too.. i'll sometimes get caught for 2 hours making my own sound on a vst synth haha.

I used to suggest people pick up a old triton or early motif and start tweaking the sounds. I still have a JV1080 (got it in 95) that I love. But now, I say get komplete and then get the arturia collection. With those two, you will be a beast!!!
