So here is what happened. I have a drum machine that I plan on selling because i hardly use it even though many of the samples are pretty good. It just isn't convenient to screw around with a drum machine with my current set-up. I'm new to using the MPC and I own a MPC 1000. So, I decided that before I unload this drum machine that I'd sample each and every drum sound onto my 1000. The process went smooth but was a pain in the a$$. I think it ended up being about 800 samples. Finished, then organized everything into folders. The problem is this crazy attack on all of my samples. I dropped all of them on a flash drive and transferred them to my music computer so i could see how they all turned out. I used battery 3 for this purpose since I use it often and it provides a good visual of the waveform. That's when I freaked out. All of my drum samples have this awful attack....thing.....going on. For the record, I made damn sure none of these samples clipped during recording on the mpc. The waveforms don't show clipping. Instead it looks like a hit...microsecond of dead space....then the drum sound. Of course to the ears it sounds like clipping during the attack phase. It can be remedied by adjusting the attack on an amp envelope but I don't want to do that every time i use these samples. So....1. Does anybody know what the hell happened here?
2. I've decided that I'm going do the whole sampling process again. How can I avoid this? Maybe changing the autorecord threshold from the normal -48 db?
