The free JJOS didnt work for me either, it just froze. You could try to get another memory card (original).

Are you guys holding the Erase button when you reboot the machine after installing JJ Free?

I personally have had to use the Akai cards for some JJ OS flashing. But not always.

I'll try to repeat what happened to you guys on my 2500. But personally never had the update get stuck on a reboot.

See if you can get the Akai OS back in, keep a backup on a computer, and then reformat whatever CF card you are using. I actually earlier today had my 2500 HDD be all screwed up from just erasing a ton of files the other day. Reformatted and it was back to normal. Just thinking it's best to start with a fresh format on the CF. Then if it still messes up you may be able to pinpoint the issue as the card itself.

Of course! I also tried to install it both from the load screen and from holding the window button. It seems if you dont do it right from the beginning its never going to happend. I wanted to buy the JJosXl but i have to install the free first.

Does the memory card matter and is it enough with only 16mb ram?

Yeah I figured you had the erase thing right, but it's the first way it could go wrong so I mentioned it.

Yeah the update to XL needs the Free in first to read the file format to load the others. I just can't figure out why on boot the file in questions name is frozen on your screen.

16MB internal RAM won't cause an issue with installing JJ OS. They do use more memory than the Akai one, but it's a a very small amount.

16MB is cramped to do full songs on the MPC. The 128MB is something to add soon.

PC 133 144PIN CL3 SODIMM 256MB (CL3 is the most important thing. Do not buy any stick without CL3 printed on the label)

RAM matching that spec can be bought for like $10.

I'm hoping the CF card is actually fine. Off chance the OS file was corrupted, maybe download again...

Like I said I'll try the Akai to JJ Free to XL on mine. I can try 4 brands of cards, including a 128MB Akai. Only once or twice did I have a problem with the JJ load and had to use the Akai card.

I try to hold the erase button when booting up the mpc and it didn't change anything...my mpc need the orginal akai cf card with the os in it to start. If I put any other card than the akai one it's say wrong card and if I don't put any cf card at all the os won't load and I don't understand why....I mean the os is supposed to be installed in the mpc not in a cf card....I've never had problem with my mpc 1000 but this 2500 is giving me headache.Tonight I'm gonna unscrew the hard drive and the 128 ram to see if it change something and i'll post a video of the problem....thanks guy.

I didnt hold down the erase button long enough when rebooting. I used to release it til the screen with how much Ram you got, but when i held it down longer for 4-5 sec it didnt freeze. WOw been hustlin with this in a month ffs.

Hope it will work out for u Squareine1...

ok when you power on after install without the CF-card in the slot it just jumps to "please insert memory card screen"?

Do you hold [window] button on boot?
Did you hold [erase] on initial boot?

Edit: sorry, I'll reread the thread to get up to speed on this. Something fishy going on there for sure.

Is it finding the OS file on the CF card, or elsewhere, and asking if you want to load it?

What happens if you take the CF card with the OS out, after it installs the OS, before you restart?

Might be problem with the internal flash memory / eeprom. If this doesn't get resolved (and I doubt it will), try contacting mpcstuff http://www.mpcstuff.com/info.html and send your video and clear description of the issue.
