Cheers I look into the 606, how does it compare to a 1000 in features though. I love the sound of the sp from what I heard has a bit more character but obviously I love chopping stuff up so a MPC is like my weapon of choice.

I recommend a 606 over a 404 too. Most of the effects from the 404 are on it as well. Resampling is the only way to chop on the 404, but on the 606 you can manually chop by using the Clipboard feature or Auto-Chop it.

606 is also the first hybrid of software and hardware. But if you looking for up-to-date, then the SP-555 is the last of the hybrid design. Thats right, the 555 is an audio interface/controller/drum machine too. Fail if you missed.

@unfolding machines, it wasnt a specific tape i was trying to find, i was just wondering/ thought i read over there that you guys had a series of sp beat tapes that were an organized forum effort, so i was just looking for the links to those, would be cool if you knew of a thread where they were all linked up.

im not sure if you know, but there is a forum beat tape over here too. its called symphony sounds, there is 3 volumes, i havent put anything on them, but i know debauch has, you can check them out here. the sidebar has the other two volumes.

ill peep the link you dropped too, thanks for that :-D

On the heading at SP-forums where it says Chat, Board Index and Music. Click Music and it'll take you to a special page where a bunch of SP album covers are. Just click an album to hear whats on it. I have to submit my stuff to that page soon myself.

True story! You'll find tons more music in the 'Your Music' section too, not all SP but a large amount is.

Chopping by ear is an artform, a few times now 303, 404 & 555 users have said how they've picked out notes & sounds they would normally miss with visual editing. Pretty sure the way you chop on those SPs is to use the dials to set start & end points then trim from there. Not sure if the trims are permanent or not though.

@Debauch, yeah it's all Roland & Boss SP stuff. Kinda misleading for the Emu fiends .

@Damien: Try over here as well, these were also made by SP Forums dudes

The SP-606 is the one for MPC heads, but as it was my first sampler I'm pretty loyal (biased) to it.

i highly recommend comboing any sp with a zoom sampletrak for timestretch, pitch and some dirt, i've owned a 303 and 505 and it was a great combo. sampletraks are cheap as hell. i'm actually getting a 606 soon.

Just want to say that the 606 is the missing link!!

Between hardware and software.

This is what Roland should've expanded on. Too bad it wasn't received back in 2005, just way ahead of the time for anyone to catch up and care. NOW, peeps want that hybrid. Glad I kept mine. I can sample straight off the USB and add effects too, use it as a controller for Ableton and use it stand alone at the same time. Of course there's limitations, but I'm just saying the SP-606 is the blueprint.

couple of questions...

lol but going to sell my sp404sx for a 606 as the sequencer is just not great for me, so how is the 606 in comparsion.

What is the maximum size for cf card I can use.

the max is 512 mb.

i havent used a 606 first hand, but have used a 404, and have done a lot of research on them both. from what i gathered, i dont think you will be much better with the 606 sequencer vs the 404, as it only has 4 tracks. if your at all used to an mpc type sequencer, i think you will still feel limited in that respect.

why dont you use an mp along with your SP, then you get the best of both worlds imo.

also, re read this thread, there is a lot of relevant information to your questions that has already been posted in here.

and if your really interested in one, check the youtube video i posted on the first page as well, someone does a half hour demo of it thats geared towards prospective buyers.

apologies Damian you're right, just browsing using the phone.

Anyway can't afford to keep the sx and get a mpc again.

I think the 606 be OK, it does everything the sx does but better and with velocity pads.

all good man. yeah i wanted a 606 too, but the 404, 404sx, and 555 have a couple effects that the 606 dont have. i agree though, everything else the 606 is probably better at. im really a fan of the mute groups and the full size screen... now just to be able to mess with one for awhile

well managed to snag a 606 and a 555 for a good price, sold the mpc an sx as I had more fun with the sp samplers than I ever did but probably regret that whe I miss jjos but its been hella fun with the sp samplers.

thats filthy! are you chopping on those units? how do you like chopping on the 606 compared to the jjos?

do you use one as your main sampler and the other for effects? do you find it easy to link them both up and use effects from both simultaneously?

not yet arrived mate, will let you know though can't wait though I imagine it won't be too different from the chopping on mpc and the sx already but with added benefits.
