Is this possible?

I don't like running my Ren as a VST...but maybe I have not given it a fair shot?
I run it live into a DAW.

It sucks that there's only 2 outputs?! If there was at least 4, I would have something to work with. I guess I can just make one output the kick drum and the 2nd output lump the rest of the tracks together and try it that way?

How are you guys sidechaining with your MPC beats?
I am assuming there is no way to do it within the REN and the software...although I dont have the latest upgrade...

thanks!

I figured this out.
In the program mixer mode, you can set the output of a single pad to out 3,4.
So I set the kick to that, and ran a patch into my console. Meanwhile the rest of the tracks and programs run out standard mixer (L+R). I actually ran it into ableton live, and set the sidechain compressor. Works well. You just can't sidechain internally in the Ren.
But, what's refreshing is that the Ren really has 4 simultaneous outputs, as long as you set em right.

Not sure if I'm the only one who gives a sh-t about this, but figured I'd share it. The sidechaining really helps me isolate the kick, and minimise distortion.

If you run your Ren in plug-in mode you can route tracks and / or pads to 16 virtual outputs (8 stereo) and get this into your DAW. This should make S/C a lot easier.

I havent figured a way to do this within the Ren its self. Of course you can out put in to your daw but that's obvious.

You're not...it's just this is like the 902nd time this has been posted :smoker: . The guys who normally answer this question are probably tired of answering it lol. No offense, but all the answers are in searches. :-D

You can sidechain in the ren, without any other daw, with specific sidechain plugins. like the one I mentioned above. It's not hard or complicated at all, and I've been sidechaining since version 1.0.

Thanks! I remember the discussion on side chaining early on, but never got a chance to catch up with that discussion at the time, and although searching is definitely recommended, it can be a PITA many times with all the BS bickering side chatter that goes on in a lot of the threads.

Thanks for being patient/gracious/considerate enough to re-post the plug-in recommendation!

You can fake side chain although it turns out to be a fairly heavy duty side chain effect. Use a pad with no sound on it to cut off the sound to be side chained. Also the Lfo can be used to trigger the amp and if you mess around with the rate settings you can get a similar effect. Both are pseudo side chaining work arounds - neither of them ideal. If the feature is essential its better to do it using a Daw and the Ren as a VST.
