Discuss Akai's iOS apps iMPC & iMPC Pro

Agreed. But I see healthy.chops point that iMPC can be made to work OK. But like Jazzydrew just said you get out $20 on Beatmaker2 and you're getting a "virtual MPC" for cheaper than a hardware you always wanted is actually Beatmaker2. It's nearing a MPC 4000 level of functionality at this point. If it can add support for soundfonts or.sfz so it's easier to load multisampled patches the app will start getting untouchable unless others add the same features.

Honestly I fear by buying iMPC at the jump as so many have (it's in the top 5 or ten since release), I may have made it less likely for Akai to tell Retronyms to add better chopping, folders, the normal MPC pad cutoff, pad panning...just head scratching simple stuff.

It's based on the MPC 1000 OS so it's not like it's even much work to add these basic things.

You're probaly on to something. Akai needs to realize that the initial enthusiasm of IOS users purchasing the iMPC was largely due to name brand association and the "cool" factor of owning a "virtual MPC". Those same customers quickly discover the limitations of the app. and then catch wind of more feature rich, frequently updated products that deliver what iMPC doesn't and quickly abandon it. Retronyms is stuck in limbo waiting on Akai to get it together.

It kind of reminds me of the Ojays tune:

I don't even mind Retronym's App Purchase model. If they want $4 or Even another $8 on 1.5 or whatever I'll pay.

Same here, in fact I have bought most of Retronym's addons. The more tools the better. I just want to be able to use the other tools that I have also purchased such as Animoog, Korg iPolySix,iMS-20,etc. which all have Audiobus.

It would be so simple to add Audiobus to Tabletop to make everyone happy. They could even make it an in-app purchase. Problem solved.

Yep, Audiobus and that somewhat cryptic reference to it in the iMPC FAQ concerns me.

It's like the answer says in effect "well you have TableTop so don't trip on Audiobus". And that attitude even if just implied is silly to me. Like you said coolderb, this the new standard, provide for it.

And yeah if additions I really want have to be in app paid stuff, take my money.

coolderb, what you said makes a lot of sense, that's pretty much what happened to me. I was just browsing the app store when i saw it, when i read 'AKAI iMPC' as an 8 dollar app i was instantly hyped.

Now that i've tried beatmaker though...i can see where the hate is coming from, that thing. The only thing that urks me at this point is that i don't have all my samples in the Retronyms interface :WTF: and I really don't want to have to chop all those same samples again. :Sigh:

Hate is a strong word, lol, but I get your point.Luckily there are workarounds such as copy/paste from within Tabletop and (if your device is Jailbroken) using iFile to copy samples between apps.

Lol I was just gonna post about this, they are blowing it up on twitter. What will be ironic is if there are no bugs in the game (i know the game is way easier to make but still funny)

On the same day their game was released, Intua released another solid update to Beatmaker 2. Also Apple just released an update to Garageband and it is now Audiobus compatible!:

Nice on the GB news, thanks coolderb, hadn't checked updates today. I counted the other day, GB will give me 32 apps for Audiobus' first slot, still only have 3 or 4 apps for the FX slot, but it's great to get multiple Audiobus enabled updates almost weekly.

woah, seriously? Can you jailbreak an iPad?

Yeah iPad jailbreak is basically identical to the phone ones. I haven't done it, but coolderb has his able to attach an external HD through a USB hub and has much easier data/folder management. The newer iOS's have had most of what I need, but this has me thinking to try the jailbreak.
