It's a cool trick, but it's not really auto chop (i.e. like on an MPC1000), because auto chop by definition has to detect the peaks in the break. So it's more like an 'equal' chop, so no guarantee any of the chops will start bang on a peak.

Still, whatever works - if it means you can come up with something cool sounding from it, then it's worth trying it out. And there's plenty of scope to keep on adjusting the envelope settings to get different effects.

this also only gives you a short amount of time to chop (you can't get the whole sample usually, this is made mainly for attack phase), but it is a cool trick, yes

Pseudo chop.

Very old trick, and a good one for new 2k users so you can get a feel for what the mpc is capable of in terms of its basic assignments. I started off many granular programs with some form of this. Sometimes it's more fun to not use 16 levels and set the sample start with your own velocity, start combining that with other assignments and features and you can get some crazy stuff

I once did a thread (or wrote a tip in an existing thread.. I forget) for how to do the same thing in fl studio with the click of a button.. except you get the span of a keyboard.
