Its XP sp2, I've been using that latop since 2004.

Remember, its a storage USB type like the MPC1000/2500 for transfering files back and forth. But on the DP-01, you have to load the files into its FAT32 format in order to be read by your computer.

More can be found on the mircosoft site

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/wind ... -windows-7

Yeah, the virtual XP on 7 works on a lot of software from yesteryear. Not sure about reading old external devices. It might work.

Did you download the manual from Tascam's site? They show the proceedure on how to connect a PC to the DP-01. Its at http://tascam.com and under Support. Look for Digital Portastudios.

Yeah the xp mode works a dream with old software, never tried any old external devices so I couldn't say a 100 percent. But I can remember a friend saying it does work with usb just takes a bit of patiences to get it to work. Maybe a scout about google may give a guide or something.

Its a simple DAW and I like it. I use it mostly to lay vocals on my beats because the virtual tracks seem infinite, so I do 40 to 50 takes and use the best one, (which is usually the first :) ) Also, I can EQ to beef up my beats even more. You can also adjust the EQ parameters to make the lows even lower or the highs even higher when turning the knobs. It has copy and paste to help repeat a chorus or add gaps between bars, but I never used those features because I prefer to do it manually myself.
