sounds like you audio coming into the ren is peeking. i sample daily mic performances, and vinyl. never have this issue. with ren or studio. i dont meen to imply you dont know how to adjust your input gain, im sure your aware of this but id start there.

No, it has nothing to do with the gain. It's a software-related issue. I just don't understand what's causing it. Also, it can't be a CPU overload because of two reasons: The CPU level is barely showing any fluctuation, and I also set the sample rate really low to see if that would fix the issue, and it did not. It seems to temporarily fix when I stop running audio through for a couple of minutes. It's really weird. :hmmm:

what i would do at this point is to reach out to akai support directly. see what they have to say about it.

OP, I haven't experienced the issues you are having with your Ren. I agree that you should contact Akai support....as opposed to relying on some of the info presented by forum members that have zero experience with the Ren.

Note - There is another on going thread regarding noise when sampling. Read through that to see if it relates.

I'll give them a call tomorrow afternoon and see if it's a known issue, or if it's fixable. Also, I checked out that thread, and I'm not necessarily sure if the static he's talking about is the same thing that I'm hearing. The only sure way to tell is by recording a sample. I'll post it up on both threads.

That's horrible bearhead. Are you on the ren? Using its sound card?
If your on ren and still under warranty. I'd just exchange it real quick. If you have studio.... 1st I'd exchange it just cause u can. Or... Our (boise)Maclife genius told me. If you upgraded to mountain lion when it first came and have done the 2 updates and have little issues happening ( not that yours is little) to just download lion again just reinstall it. So I went home formatted and went back to lion 10.7. No problems now. Not any crashes yet. On 10.8. Mpc would crash when closed every time. It does not do this now in lion. Either way bru if you can exchange I'd do it. That way you know for sure it's not your new mpc! Let us know what you do.

 that's probably going to be an added vintage sound on their next update! Pfff
I think it's funny how we spend all this time and science on cleaning up the signal path, and then create artificial shit noise to "bring back that grit". Mpc update 2.5. I can see it now  "introducing the new vintage white noise option!" So you can have that good old electricity interference sound in your signal path again."

Well, I got it from Guitar Center, but it's about two hours away from where I live, and it would be difficult to get there and return it. But again, I don't think this is a hardware-related issue. Also, I just recently upgraded to Mountain Lion, back in early December. I had the same issue when I was on Snow Leopard...

Hahah. "We're proud to introduce the new 'okay it's broken' Vintage Mode."

Louie lou wrote:Static noise appears when your system in on heavy load sometimes and this is an issure with the ASIO drivers. Adjust your ASIO from Normal to above normal back to normal to the other preference until it disappears. This usually does the trick for me. Did it last night through a heavily loaded VST session. The noise is ridiculous. I hope this has been stabilized in 1.3.

this is terrible advice, MAc don't use asio since os9.

just sample into some other software and transfer the audio to ren a different way.

What ever happened to you contacting Akai? Or returning it to GC? If there is something wrong with your unit, the logical response is to return it to get one that works.

And have you tried fiddling around with the buffer size / sample buffer? Try raising it. This surely raises latency, but as long as you're not recording notes but only sample sound, you should be fine.

These artifacts sound like buffer size set too low.
