iomega jaz scsi 2gb device

Hi,
bought iomega jaz scsi 2gb device with 2 disks and 1 disk (all disks are 1gb capacity) from another seller. When I plug-in it to my mpc it shows scsi device not ready. Tried all ID's on device, also tried to switch terminator in all three positions - nothing. Tried to input disk into device with/without connection it to mpc and it just spit out any of my disk.

(before switch Id or terminator position, or un/plug device to mpc I disable the power for device)

Tried also two different cables, one from my external scsi cd-rom, another from packaging of iomega device.

Fuse on mpc in working condition because I use my external scsi cd-rom with mpc.

What the prob ? Maybe I don't know how to use it or it's (the jaz device) broken ?

Also it seems like disk read or/write protected, or maybe device broken.
I need the diagnose. I dont have a pc with scsi, so I cant diagnose what the prob.
Maybe one of you knows.

I might have an old Jaz drive and disks at work, if I do, will see if I can give it a go and see if it works or not.

I'm surprised to see a Jaz drive act up. From my experiences with them they were more reliable than Zips.

jaz disks can be set as read and/or write protected. This is controlled through software so you would need to hook your drive to a PC or Mac and run the Iomega software to change the settings.

So, it's read/write protection or device bug ? ;]

Why does my Jaz® 2GB disk eject immediately after I insert it into my Jaz drive?

If the Jaz® disk is automatically ejected from the Jaz drive when you insert it, use the following steps to correct this problem:

STEP ONE - Hold the disk in the drive while starting up
- Turn the drive off.
- Insert a disk with the drive off and hold it in the drive.
- Turn the drive on while holding the disk in place.
- If the disk spins up you are now ready to use your drive and disk.

From the further steps in the link above, if that doesn't work, might need to try and format it from a computer first, or maybe it is a faulty drive?


I don't think it is anything to do with write protection, if spitting the disk out when connected to the MPC, and when not connected to the MPC.

Today spent 20$ for scsi pci card, found my old pc, tested with it - nothing, the same bahavior. Will try to buy another device

Could it be your OS? Don't you have to have the newest OS to use a Jaz drive? Just adding in my two cents. I may be wrong...

Like MPCHunter mentioned, there was a Iomega program for a Windows PC that allows you to format and protect/unprotect any Zip and Jaz disc.
If you can't find the program, let me know and I can try and find it and upload it.

I tried with pci scsi adaptec ava 2904, win xp and iomega ioware 4.0.2 - but nothing, beacuse it can't read disk and spit it out, I'm already bought another device, will wait for it.

Probably best to go with something else.

Did you try the troubleshooting steps from the Iomega site I posted above, holding disk in while powering on, then if that didn't work, their specific steps to format it when auto ejecting?

another crazy one send me broken device, broken mean can't switch on
will buy another one....

bought 3rd device and ........... it works fine. So on ebay much defective old devices like iomega jaz scsi drive.
