HOW U GET DAT SOUND?

All my production and raps. Just cant Mix for sh1t! Erm the Label is called Washington Classics, not my label its someone elses but the owner has got really good mixing skills. but his setup he is used too. He uses NS 10's and he is very iffy about frequencies what u can hear AND what u cant hear!

But in my studio its a bit different , I got Spirits Absolute 2's AKai DPS 16 and a Yamaha 01V Mixer of which I am still getting use too and my suroundings dont help one bit. ....oh well..

Ok....Yea, ur mixes are flat - Lol. Its in the drums tho. If you use a flat sounding kit, ur already doomed. Fatten them drum ups (EQ/Layer).
Kick sounds like a finger click - Lol

Tracks nice...Maybe add a bass tho (2/3 note)

Vocal is a lil muddy too, but that can be fixed too. I say keep going... You got some nice styles

Safe bruv, I feel like a idiot asking u this question but exactly what do u mean by layering...my understanding would be mixing my drums say...putting 2 or 3 of them together to get a fuller sound right?

Best ting I do is jack some heavier drums!

Yea, layering would be in this case to stack kicks on top of each other. Carefully tune & EQ them so they complement each other. Low end kick (for deep thump)...Midrange kick etc. If u get the mix right, they'l fuse together neatly

Another tip, is to use mono drums....Also, A/B your drums with tracks from CD's that u like. U can use that a ruff guide.

one of the great htings about the mpc...the layering!!! get three kicks...one with a pronouced attack, one with bass and one with a nice body/tail...mix and blend them paying attention to the individual volumes of each...

great thing is you can impose the decay of one sample onto the others so they all last for the same amount of time and sound much more like one kick- its a ruse usually done with noise gates but with tweaking you dont need a noise gate- same goes for snares too.....if you need more on this shout and ill check the settings i use when i get in...

Yeah that makes sense, i always thought i just needed to EQ them to get that BOOM sound but i can never get it. thanks.

It also depends what feel u are goin for....Not all drum needs to shatter glass windows.

If the source is good, ur off to a good start. Once a shite kit, always a shite kit.

just put a big boom or bassy thud on the ones and maybe one leading into the ones every once in a while.

But man, i LOVE the low synth b-line in this! so gritty!

tru dat, I always say to people once a crap recording it will always be a crap recording, I get peeps coming to me saying can u make this sound better? .... when i listen to it its all distorted! I be like NOPE! cant be done if u recorded it lower maybe....but NOPE!
I gonna go through all my drum kits and re-do them, load em all up in soundforge and boost em!

Nah aint no biggy, I got pure kicks and snares I need get rid of got so many I never use. I been jacking em since 2001 some sound pretty crap now so they need to go. I will spend a day just organising my drum kits....its will be worth it especially going into the new year with a fresh start!

I am changing the setup in the new year, into two studios one in the office and one at home. the new one being at home.

But I'mnot sure if I should go the PC route or buy another DPS16 or maybe a Roland VST18 I would prefer the PC route cause then I can utilise these plug-ins and start getting hi-tec with my production, I like small compact and effective so I might build a PC with some dirty specs!
Also depends on how cash is flowing as well!!!
