Recording Mixer

Hello, guys

The 8-Outs for my 2KXL is on my way, I will receive it next week. So I have now time to choose for the right mixer. I did a lot research but I havent found a one that had my attention. Maybe you can help me with some recommendations. My budget for my mixer is round 450$ USD. What I want is a 16 channel mixer (8 mono/4stereo), 4 Band EQ (2 sweepable MIDS), Onboard FX, and compression on mic/line channels is a pre, it doesnt have to but would be nice.

I wouldn't get your hopes up for any compression let alone channel compression.. Grab the mixer then go for a separate mater compressor bus at some point later.

mackie onyx i series seem to be a dope deal, neva used one tho, u could find them on craigslist for around 300 which is a crazy deal.

plus they got firewire

Look into the Roland VS series or Korg multitrackers. Yeah they are multitrackers, but they are mixers with recording function.

Soudcraft mixers may be worth checking out.M series is a clean sound,doesn't have fx but other ones do.

To the OP, are you looking any firewire or usb at all or just a plain old mixer?

Im pretty much in the same boat. Dont much care for onboard fx and compression. Just some good eq's and enough channels to not have to unplug stuff every time i want to try something. Unfortunately mackie onyx I series dont come close to 300$ on CL over here .

tascam 1884 (unless you can afford the 4800)... its the dopest... you can expand it to addtional 8 (fe 8 ) if you can find them. motorized faders and once you learn it, you wont even need to keyboard... compression though I always run my drums and bass through a compression rack.... DBX 160a. but for sure the tascam 1884 is my weapon... untill i cant afford the SSL

Sounds like you want a digital mixer with some mileage on the clock. Maybe look into the Yamaha O1V, O3D, maybe even the Promix. Or look at an older analogue Mackie with an external rack compressor. Scope eBay to see what's available within your budget.

I picked up a Mackie Onyx 1640 with FireWire the other day, apart from the short 60mm faders its a nice board with flexible routing options. Perfect for use with MPC's and tracking to a computer. Might be close to your budget?
