Hey d00dz,

Just spent a few minutes searching the forums and couldn't find any "legit" pictures of the black LCD from MPCstuff. One thread I saw showed two close ups that just... looked strange to me.

Once I decide one which JJOS I want to buy, the next thing I'm doing is buying either a black or white LCD. Would love some pictures of either one/both!

I have a white in my 1000 and a black in my 2500. I don' have a decent close up photo of the black at the moment. I could maybe take one tomorrow in daylight as the lighting here is not very good.

I prefer the black one and wish I had got black for the 1000 too. Not to say the white is bad it's actually quite nice. But direct comparison the black one is easier to see and is better for off angle viewing. I can actually easily read it from 6 feet away, and I'd say it's the easiest viewing MPC screen I've seen. (I have an XL and 4000 too).

The black ones are not unlike the black Roland LCD's you see on the latest Juno keyboards which are easier to find photos of.

Here's a clean shot of my white one.

I'll try for a similar quality shot of the black tomorrow. I swear MPCStuff used to have a zoom-able picture of the LCD's in use. I also seem to remember the pictures being pretty accurate to what you see in real world use too.

The extra light on the left is the LCD's backlight, not a trick of the camera. You don't even notice in use, and I'd imagine it only happens as the replacement backlights are brighter. (On my 1000 the light actually bleeds over to the Q-link button and it's bright white until I engage it and make it green. )

I would really appreciate a sexy picture of the black LCD! The quality of the white LCD picture is awesome, gives me a great idea of what to expect. Looks more or less like the MonoMachine screen.

Thanks for the quick reply, amigo.

One dude took the white LCD and reversed the film from within and that reversed the color white to black. It was cool with white letters and a black background. He even did it with the OG LCD and that made the letters green and the background black like those '80s Apple computer screens. Delicate process too.

Don't know where I saw it but I remember his name, Locotesmjr, and he's a member here.

Yeah GhostinMPC does it for XL screens. No ones really sure if the MPCStuff ones are inverted whites or what. Personally I'm not techy enough to know either way.

I'll try for that photo of the black still OP.

That is very nice and clean, was looking at getting a custom LCD. Torn between black on white and white on black, **** it might get both

I know I need to show up with an equally clean pic of the black.

But black>white is what I would recommend. The contrast of the white lettering on a dark background is so easy on the eyes. But they are both nice and such an improvement over stock green.

And don't forget the XLCD ones can be inverted with a toggle in the software.

iPhone 4 cam in bad light, this is the best I could do.

Image

In the real world staring right at at it's as crisp or better than the white one for visibility. Even in the bad flick you can see the nice pixel density of the white lines/font.

Same as the white a little bright at the backlight source on the left edge. And the purple-ish pixel at the top border are not a camera trick. But it's barely noticeable in use. (although had me wondering if these are inverted from another color)

But again in actual use it's as even as the white one across the whole thing, this flick has reflection from the phone and the ceiling light.

The text is pretty white when the contrast is dialed in right. The position four clicks up of the LCD hinge is great for it. Can see it from all over the room. Even read it from 6-8 feet away if you have perfect 20/20 vision.

One thing I want to add is when I bought the LCD for the 1000, it didn't have the foam around the LCD's border. Without the foam strips the plastic LCD window piece doesn't sit flush with the screen. I had to take a thin piece of foam from a software box and cut 4 strips. Then I cut lines of double sided scotch tape and affixed the foam strips to the tape around the LCD's perimeter.

The plastic LCD windows glue also can come undone at least it did for me, I used the double sided scotch tape for attaching the LCD window to the case. Hopefully anyone ordering a 1000 might get the LCD with the foam already on it. if not what I did seemed the easiest way and avoided any heavy duty glues that I feared could be too corrosive with the plastic used in the MPC.

Thanks for sharing the pictures, amigo! Definitely going to be going with the black LCD as opposed to the white one. Both are great but I really feel that the black one wouldn't murder my eyes as much as the white LCDs do!

Appreciate the feed back!
