Thoughts? I really wish it had it's own sequencer. The only plus is they have a built in transient master effectr built in.

this is dope, i dont know if ill get it though, i have battery 3 already and have moved more onto mpc only prodution, but if it had a sequencer i would buy it, even at full price.
i really hope they put an assignable panic mode, or an all notes off button similar to when you push stop 3 times on the mpc.

the one they have in battery 3 is tiny, (the little exclimation mark by the master volume) and it wasnt assignable to anything, so by the time you clicked it, your sound would have been playing forever anyway.

i bet the new kits are cool though.

I had Komplete 8 and sold it (regretfully, I might add), but I've always liked NI Battery. This new version looks good, but I'd be just as happy to to cop Komplete 8 again at the cheaper price. Sample some of those Battery kits into the MPC and/or use as a standalone instrument via MIDI.

New interface looks much better, although old style grew on me already. Any word on upgrade pricing ?

I'm excited to try out the new battery in the Renaissance. There are FX on individual cells now as well as groups and master so that make it possible to get 99% of the mixing done inside battery while loaded in the Ren.


I've been very patient as I'm still sitting on Komplete 5

I think it's finally time to upgrade this year, $150 for all of the things I'll get is ridiculous. The only things that I already have with Komplete 5 that will be exactly the same are, Massive, Reaktor, and FM8. Everything else in the pack will be completely new for me....everything lol

The color scheme of the pads do seem to indicate them corresponding to Maschine RGB pads so that's a welcome development. Not sure about any other further integration between the two. They're different enough and Battery caters to those who sequence in a DAW and don't mind using the mouse a lot.

battery 3 (and i think the earlier versions) are also able to use mpc .pgm's, its kinda cool, i was loading up some mpc kits in there awhile back.

i wonder how much the upgrade is gonna cost?

No announcement yet as far as a separate upgrade from Battery 3. As of now it's only listed as part of the standalone and upgrade Komplete 9 packages. Maybe next month when Komplete 9 releases they will list an upgrade for just Battery.

In the past the upgrades have been around $129 or so for each NI plugin, they really want you to look at Komplete. I will say once you get to a situation where you have/want to upgrade 3 or more NI products Komplete does start to become a really good value.

I was hoping for direct sampling into cells when I first saw the original teaser but I guess they don't want to superimpose onto the Maschine market. At first glance it seems like an utilitarian update more than anything, which is cool, I guess. The layout of Battery 4, from what I can see, seems more streamlined and less jarring than 3, to me.

However, I'm going to assume that the real purpose of this update is for a better symbiosis between Battery and Maschine; extensibility. Those who use Maschine should know soon enough. For the rest of us at least we'll probably still enjoy the tweaks.

The update is 99 bucks but if you wait until the summer of sale in june/july it will be 49 bucks.

You could already browse the Battery library from Maschine and load the Battery samples onto Maschine pads. And since Battery 3, you could also midi assign Battery cells to match the Maschine controller pad layout and save it as a template in Battery. Also, you can just open Battery kits on a pad in Maschine and put that pad in keyboard mode and the pads will play the cells in Battery.

As for Battery 4 and the rest of Komplete 9, looks like Komplete parameter automapping in Maschine has been improved:

i can immagine using tons of instances of kontakt or reaktor just for the same 2 patches, while your cpu is dying in front of you...you gotta have some N.A.S.A supercomputer or something...


Got maschine when was 1.1, full of bugs and almost unusable, things start to change and get interesting from 1.5...bought the mk2 in late october 2012, yeah full of "whistles and bells" but after 5 years of development still no basic midi feature...just sold it last week and no regretting it at all.

I mean you can make terrific music with it, but with free software as well nowdays.

There is a balanced review here of Battery 4 with some sound samples. maybe one day we will see a Maschine/Battery fusion...

I played with the demo. The GUI looks sleeker. The browser is ok. The main benefits are the individual mix outs per pad , the SSL style compressor, and transient designer. Save yourself 49 dollars and wait until the summer sale.
