dumb newbie question, bear with me need some help.

ok ive had a mpc2kxl for like 3 months, im getting the hang of it but theres something i dont get, and that something is programs. what exactly are they and what do they do, ive read the manual on creating and editing them but something isnt clicking, maybe is soemone can explain it in simple terms, i dunno i might just be being a retard but some help would be appreciated, thanks.

Programs store all the samples that you will play in a kit across your pads plus you can change the sound of the samples too with filter,tuning, attack, and decay. You can change many things search the newbie bible for a basic list.

Programs shape the sound of the samples.

a wave is assinged to a note.
a note is assigned to a program.
a program is 64 notes ie, pad bank a, b, c
and d (16 pads x 4).

Without going into specifics and getting too deep here
MPC2kxl can access 4 Drums (256 notes total). You can
load 24 programs but play only 4, you can access more
but I'll keep this simple (advanced step editing will give that access).

Drums are tied to programs, then drums are assigned to tracks,
IE, Drum 1 thru 4 can be tied to any loaded program.
