Is the Acard 7720U hot-swap capable?
From what I have read, it's the actual CF card reader that you have to be careful with, to make sure you can hot-swap. Is that right?

No.

If you look at the PCB, there are no electronic components on it, it is simply a direct electrical connection/adapter between the IDE/ATA cable and the CF card.

It needs to be ATAPI to be hot swappable, and there would be some electronic components if it were.

Yes, needs to support ATAPI hot swapping, and seems to be that if it supports hot swapping on most computer OS types without needing a driver, then it might hot swap in the MPC3000/60.

There seem to be very few readily available card readers that do hot swap in the MPC3000.

I think that this Delock 91640 model might have been sold as hot swap in the MPC3000, but I saw it do a few strange things when hot swapping in mine, in a brief test, so not sure I would trust it...

I was seeing weird things where after a hotswap, it wasn't showing the files properly on the newly inserted card.

As I said, I only did some brief testing, I didn't really look into it too much, as the SATA bridge and SATA reader seems a better way to go for me, so not sure what was actually causing it, and how repeatable it was.

It might not really be a problem, might have been an issue with the IDE cable I was using (80 wire/40 pin IDE cables might be causing problems, for me), or something.

But if it is working fine for you, and others, it is probably all good

I probably know what do you mean now. It's doing the same things to me, when after hot swap, content of the new card isn't shown immediately and the old files are still shown instead. I have to change the partition to some another, than return back to where the files suppose to be, or to make the SCSI drive active and return back into load menu.

I think it was doing weird things for me, even after making it active and returning to the load screen.

But again, I really didn't test it much, it is probably OK, and there don't seem to be many other ATAPI hotswap readers that will work with the MPC3000 and MPC60.

Well, I just bought one, so... as long as it works after a few extra button presses, it'll do.

I read that the CF needs to report back as fixed drive on 2000XL, does this apply for MPC3000?

MPC3000/Acard will not recognise it at all, I have one here.

Will order this one today, spray paint the Bezel black. Its guaranteed to work & hot swap is overrated anyways.
