big cf cards and akai os??

hello,

i would like to buy 2 big (8gb and 16 gb) compact flash cards. one for my samples, the other for projects. i read in the net will work. the source didnt wrote which operating system is in use with such big cards
will the cards work under the akai os? i am a newbie so i have to stick with the akai os for some time.

Yes they will work...Akai says to only use 2gb but trust me, you'll be fine.

they'll work... but if you want that much space for samples, then just install an internal hard drive instead.

at crossing: why you recommend a hdd for samples? are hdd faster or is it just a workflow and flavour thing??

I have an 8GB card in mine and it works like a charm!

I prefer CF card over HD, swapping from CF to HD allways takes time too.

my HD adapter gave up its work, so its a while since i last used a HD,
all in all it was to slow for me and cumbersome. so i never replöaced the adapter, took the HD out.
Also do i prefer file arrangement over several CF cards than having a huge HD with huge amounts of folders and subfolders.
but Cf cards are finally more expensive to have large memory amounts. Thats to consider too.
I´m on JJOS2XL, here i used up to 32GB cards.

mainly just because the pins inside the CF card drive are really sensitive and can get bent easily if a CF card is inserted improperly... you mentioned wanting to have separate CF cards for samples and projects, etc... that's why i mentioned it... maybe you should just get a really large CF card instead and just store everything on there... my advice is just to try to avoid constantly swapping CF cards in and out of the drive... that's all.

i understand your point of view. very interessting. i dont thought in that direction as a new user.
my experiences with hdd an their heads are they have no long life. ok, as an exeption my macbook hdd is a nice one.
