mpc2500 w/ akai s5000

found real good deal on an a5000 and i was thinking about adding it to my studio. theres not a whole lot of info on the net about it and the youtube videos are limited as well. my question is, is there anything in the s5000 that my 2500 can't already do? I know they are both 16-bit, but sound wise are they similar, any stock FX in the s500? I know the s5 has more filters on it are they good? any help would be great.

the S5 doesn't have usb or the EB20 FX, but it does have the 64voice and 256ram...he's selling it for $150.

I've had an S6000 for a month or so. The output's are super loud. It has 48000Hz which is what I use. It sounds great. The filters are useful and it's good for pads because you don't have to worry about running out of polyphony (try creating a couple of lush, evolving pads in the 2500 that you play with both hands and watch your poly availability tumble). It free's up the 2500's processor too.

You should really look for one with the USB card. Then you can use ak.sys (Google it) and transfer samples easily.
Also, make sure that it has a hard drive installed in it!

Tbh though, I'm selling mine because I like to use my S1000 and S950 instead... and I need to recoup the money I just spent on an MPC3000

I'm a hardcore S3x user (own both a 3200XL and 2800), one of my good friends uses a S-5000 as his main bread+butter sampler amongst other more colour him father samplers (haha get it) and I did borrow the 5k off him too.. Whilst it's technically great on paper and it sounds wicked I didn't jive with it, give me a 3200 or 1000/1100 any day... Actually I have a serious problem and will in the near future get a S-1100 lol

i saw depeche mode in like 99 and they had maybe 16 s5000's running. back then i was pretty impressed.

150 is a good deal to try out but arent they huge?
i imagine jj is more powerful, feature wise.
you gotta really like rack samplers to get on with their vintage limitations.

in reality i would love to have a s950 too, but they are getting hard to come by. yeah i mean for 150 its worth just picking up and checkin out i was more curious of the sound difference between it and the 2500. one thing i do like about the s5000 is that you can resample to 12 bits if needed, but thats just compensating for an actual s950. should be showing up soon.

that will not be the same thing though as sampling into a 950 which is 12 bit native and has the converters / analog stage to match.

there is a lot more to it than just an arbitrary number.
