Building Warm Punchy Samples

Just wanted to get some thoughts on how you build your samples to thicken them up. I try to mentor some younger producers who are asking the questions why there samples dont have as much punch. Now I have an MPC3K, ASR-10 and a bunch of other stuff that just nartually does it. However, I can take a tube (like slate vcc) and tape plugin, along with waves ssl and with layering samples to get good results. I was curious what do you guys use to thicken up your sound?

I make them watch hours and hours of reality TV. Thickens them up real good.

Yep that was my next suggestion. Other than feed them nothing but twinkies and mcrib sandwhiches!

Put em through old samplers and a mixing desk. Tweak the eq, resample. Distort maybe. JOIN/SPLICE the same sample of top of itself within the S1000 and S950. Tune down/up and layer with other samples.

EQ and sample hot. Be careful not to overdue it but just enough to tick the clipping meter.
