I was looking around at free VSTs and stumbled on this.. Probably the best emulation I have heard of vintage AD/DA.

Timemachine - Vintage sampler

The ultimate digititus creator! TimeMachine is a VST plugin that provides accurate reproduction of the characteristic sound of vintage samplers, such as the Commodore 64, or older Akai samplers. The (virtual) sampling rate can be varied, as well as the number of bits used for digital representation. furthermore, aliasing distortion can be generated separately for the ADC and DAC.

to check it out follow these steps, his site is mostly JavaScript so I couldnt copy and paste.. theres also a fantastic tape simulation VST among others, but I would recommend sorting through the entire pack.

1.Under "VST plugins" select "JB plugins"
2.Scroll to the bottom and check out "Time Machine"
3.You have to download the entire pack at the top to get it

From 2008 so Im sure its been posted, but it just seemed relevant with all the vintage mode hype these days...

i believe that plugin was further developed for the ToneBoosters plugin series... he/they also went on to do a more developed separate analog tape sounding plugin... all great stuff in that series of plugins. :smoker:
