Aksys no longer works with OSX Lion

Just a heads up. Can still of course transfer files other ways, but for those that use aksys heavily for various reasons, note that power PC apps are no longer supported on Lion. Hope this helped some one.

I have aksys working on OSX 10.6.8, but I think functionality breaks after that. I don't know if I lack working knowledge of the program, but I can transfer files to and from MPC and tweak parameters in programs/keygroups, but I can't drag and drop files and easily build keygroups/drum programs at all. The best move would be to run aksys from from an old Mac G4 (in my case) or in a virtual environment emulating the old operating system.

Atestarr you can edit keygroups but not in drumgroups?

i keep a g4 powerbook around for legacy software.

I edited my comment. I can't drag and drop files into aksys. It is possible to import files into each slot but it involves a bit of menu diving. I think I've only tried to edit keygroups not programs, so I'll have to check tonight if I can even see a program window in aksys. Honestly, I use the mpc as a sequencer for logic and keep my samples in the exs24.

Lion runs on 64bit, try changing it to 32bit on start up and give that a try. I have a couple things that won't run when I boot up in 64bit. Here's a link on how to do it. Tell me if that works!

I opened up a drum program (not a keygroup) in aksys 2.6.1 on osx 10.6.8 and I only see the interface that has a keyboard at top and the four zones. When I try to drag a sample to any zone, it populates the name of the sample, but doesn't play. If I import a sample to the mpc, then click a zone, it will allow me to assign a sample. Then you can modify the envelopes, LFOs, Modulation matrix as usual. I never used an earlier version of aksys on a compatible os, so I don't know what i'm missing. But the exs24 in logic behaves the same in terms of zones, modulation matrix, etc., on the MPC and I can have 16 midi channels simultaneously which beats the 10 outputs of the MPC any day. Latency is sometimes a ****, but that's why you would use plugin compensation or bypass some hogs like slate vtm. Anyway, that's my workflow for now. I have not tried OSX in 32 bit mode, so maybe that's the difference.
