Change Timing Interval During Record

Is it possible to change the timing interval while recording in real time?

More specifically, I'm wondering if there is a way to variate the length of the notes as you play them when using note repeat.

Let's say I was recording a hi-hat track. The timing is set for 1/8th notes, and I want to push it up to 1/16th and 1/32 triplets in parts of the measure to give it a glitchy drilling type sound.

Can it be done?

There are two options as I see it.

1. Assign the hi-hat sample to one of the top pads. Hold the not repeat button with your left hand, hold the sample you want with the thumb of your right hand and then use your index finger to hit the "F" buttons to switch between 1/16 and 1/32 (Not sure what model of MPC you have, I'm using a 2500SE. The F buttons switch to changing the note repeating timing)

2. Create two tracks, one full of 1/16 Hi-hats and 1/32 hi-hats. Then mute each track using Track Mute to simulate switching between the timings when tracking out.

Awesome. I probably would have just tried it first hand but I didn't have it in front of me and was curious.
