Spyrus MCDISK and OS 3.5 Setup

I have MPC3000 with Vailixi 3.5 OS and Spyrus MCDISK RD3000 SCSI card reader with Sandisk 1GB card.

I'm trying to setup those two up, but with no luck. When I try to make my SCSI device active I get an error code FF48 and message that no SCSI device was found.

Anyone got thoughts on this?

What SCSI ID is it set to, and is termination turned on?

Does your MPC SCSI port work with any other SCSI devices, Zip/CD/etc.?

SCSI ID is set to 0. I'm not sure about termination. There are two switches in the back of the unit and both of them are turned on. Did you mean that?

MPC SCSI port works fine with ZIP device.

I think that switch number 2 is for termination, so should be left on, if the reader is the last/only SCSI device on the SCSI port.

I think that switch number 1 is for SCSI parity, might be worth trying it in both positions.

Other than that, how many card slots does the reader have, and which slot are you trying to use?

Have you tried formatting the memory card from the MPC (on both SCSI ID 0 and SCSI ID 1, if it has two card slots)?

Card reader has two slots and I use the bottom one. I cannot format the card, because I cannot make the card reader active in the MPC.

I don't think you have to make it active, to format the card.

Just go into the format screen, choose the 0 for the SCSI ID, and format it.

It is possible that you might not be able to make it active, until it is properly formatted, but I would have to check.


Are both slots for PCMCIA cards, and are you using a PCMCIA memory card, or a CF card in a PCMCIA-CF adapter?

Are you able to try using the top slot instead?

I'm using a CF card with adapter. None of your suggestions worked. When I try to format a card it says that the device was not found.

My card reader have "power" and "status" lights on, but "in use" light is always off. I suppose it should be on.

Maybe try this?...

If that doesn't work, has this reader ever worked with an MPC3000?


It might need the latest firmware, as Rohan specified in a couple of old posts that it needed the latest firmware to work with 3.50.


If it hasn't, maybe it needs to be set internally, with a jumper, to enable dual slot mode, so that each slot is accessed by a different SCSI ID number, rather than both slots being on the same SCSI ID number, but accessed by different LUNs (logical unit numbers, allows multiple card slots on the one SCSI ID number, not compatible with MPC3000 I think). But, I think it should still work with the lower slot, if not set to dual slot mode.

the 'Set Multi Sector Transfer Mode to OFF' thing mention my Rohan in the link did the trick for me. Same CF reader as yours.

I cant get the disk copy to work between my daisy chain Zip & the CF. Not to hijack but does anyone have any input on this?
