And I've just seen the Poll goes to Sunday morning, don't get that, and I don't think I can edit it. Think it might work to be honest because of the STBB's (Stones Throw Battles are on a Saturday). And if we could all behave in an orderly manner as we now have a lady on board,(Don't say "Yeah Phat beat DUDE in the comments, :Sigh: she is clearly a Lady)

I've gone for Borat on this one. I love the simplicity. Reminds me of something my favourite UKHH rapper would spit on.

I would have liked to have heard that "bubble" effect at the start at intervals throughout the track. Don't really know what else to say constructively because the beat is nice how it is.

Great turn out for this one, and the quality is strong!
Gonna have to go with Side B – good groove, strong drums, some nice interesting cuts; just got to me the most. A little more repetitive than some of the more creative efforts, but personally I like that

Special mentions to Borat (proper headnodder, solid beat), KappNeffect (real minimal but nasty!) and of course Es-K for always setting the bar so high every time!

Lady-Snowblood --Nice bass and playful arrangement

Jack The Rippa --pretty solid, but nothing next level...is dope though!!

Side B-- That melody--- sick.

QuickStrike--- OMG I LOVE IT-- nice stray from that boom and the bap

Borat-- another pretty straight forward one....solid

bliprock-- pretty cool ...nothing over the top

HUNGRYM4N --NIIIICE ...I liked the arrangement

Don Blake-- a little more that norm, but hated all the vocals....

Ivoryviking-- I was waiting on something that never came... pretty cool entry

P-lif --minimal--yet dazing... I would love to hear that bass at throughout the whole joint to give it that 1 more element since there is very little, but real nice work.

NOMAGRÓF --solid.

Elmar Jestro--- ooohhh...you never took it there... nice entry though

Perfect 5th --perfect track title-- love the sounds ....but the rest is ok.

SICK THE DRUMGOD --ugh... nice one

Runme Raw--- MY MAN! That shit is nasty.

Vavoom LaHaye --- OH YEAH. Top notch synth work... shit is nice.

Obi-Dan-Kenobi--- lovely fxs....

Es-K: I love the mood set here..

Lady Snowblood - Interesting bass. Like the last section the most, cool vibe.

Jack The Rippa - Smooth, very smooth.

Side B - Very solid. Didn't love the hats.

QuickStrike - Ol' Dirty? Raw!

Borat - Listened through twice. Shoulda went three times, loved it.

bliprock - Great use of both samples. The turn around drop out is killer.

Hungry - Again this week, will be returning to study this arrangement. Killer.

Don Blake - Found the vocals took away from it a bit.

Ivoryviking - Torn on this, crispy tight drums, but the mix felt thin overall.

P-lif - Hypnotizing.

Nomagrof - You kidding. Foolish good. Revisiting this sample and studying these chops on the drop out... wicked.

Kapp - Very nice. Reminds me of some Nicolay.

Elmar Jestro - Liked this vibe. Felt like it was heading to something that never came.

Drumgod - It was busy, but he chops were great.

Runme Raw - Cool flow.

Vavoom - Solid mix

ODK - Very nice arrangement. Will need to study this more.

Es-K - Mellow. Loving this. Jean Grae over this?

Never enough popcorn...

@ODK - Padawans... too funny.

Good job everyone!

Ok, here we go.. This is gonna be hard critiquing, because I like so much different music and there's a massive load of great beats this run, not to mention I'm not always happy with my music, so it's hard to critique someone else's.

Lady-Snowblood - This track is so damn creative!! There's nothing I can really say, other than "Wow!". Your gonna have to put a tape together also!

Jack The Rippa - Great composition. Head nodder. Could use a few more change ups, but other than that it's good-to-go!

side B - Sweet processing and production! Almost too short though and I don't hear the beat box sample in there. (Correct me if I'm wrong)

Quick Strike - I don't know if you call that love-making or assault, but you ripped the hell outta that track!! Great use of all the elements!

Borat - Nice chill vibe! I don't hear the beat box either though. (Correct me if I'm wrong)

BlipRockHustler - Nice chops! Chilled out track. The kick seems a little hidden in the mix, but nevertheless good work!

HUNGRYMAN - Why are you always hungry? I'm not hungry, your hungry damnit! Well, make me some food. No! You make me some food. What the hell is a nipple hickey anyways? Ask your girl..

Don Blake - Holy Smokes! This is hot. Who's rapping at the end? Oh, no beat box either. (Correct me if I'm wrong)

Ivoryviking - Nice work, man! I hope you find time to finish it, dope tune how it sits, regardless.

P-lif - Whew! Great vibe. That bassline is sweet! It would be nice to hear some rhodes piano on top of this. Good work. I believe the beat box sample is missing also. (Correct me if I'm wrong)

NOMAGRÓF - Really creative track! Good work.

[KappNeffect] - Whew!! Knockin! Best use of the organ in the sample, thus far.

Elmar Jestro - Best sample choppage! Really creative and interesting how you turned that sample into a Reggae Dub track, with minimal processing. Great live band feel too!

Perfect 5th - Nice work! I like what you did with it. I've found out when you pitch a sample up, it's always good to try and find a bass sound to layer under it to make it sound fuller. Other than that I liked where you were going with it. Most of us didn't even change the pitch.

SICK THE DRUMGOD - Nice chill work! That scratching effect that comes in the middle, kinda has some low end that is clashing with your kick and the bass in the main sample. I'd EQ the some of the bass out of it. Other than that, good looking! Yeah, jump on the STBB!

Runme Raw - Creative as always! Did you forget the Beat box sample or am I missing it?

Vavoom LaHaye - Dang Vavoom! You made a baby-making track! Nice work with all the synths. It keeps you tuned in for the whole song.

Obi-Dan-Kenobi - Ghostly sound! Great work. I like how your playing the same notes with synths on top of the samples.

Es-K - Great sound! Really grooving.

That's all I have folks. I think main critique was the beat box sample was left out or could have been used more. Regardless, great sounds everyone! I'll be back to vote..

Dope beats! My favorites: Jack the Rippa, Side B, Quick Strike, KappNeffect and Es-K.
I voted for Quick Strike, great drums, synths and mix and the most original beat to me!

HUNGRYMAN wrote:Borat - Nice chill vibe! I don't hear the beat box either though. (Correct me if I'm wrong)

I actually just chopped a snare from the beatbox and layered it with a few other snares, so we can't really hear it but it's there

That works for me ;)

My goofy ass entered and voted in 3 different battles this week, probably listened to 150+ beats. I'm battled out yall. I figured I'd save the best for last.

Shout outs to the Planet Agga crew for joining up and the Rabbit Hole Posse! If you don't know, you will soon enough!

I'm gonna go with Quick Strike!

That track was centered on the samples, plus good use of outside elements, and had me coming back for more. Peace out yall!

Right!!

Lady Snowblood: Bass wow, cheecky little changes, brings in in for that end section.
Jack The Rippa: Love the rawness to the mix, nice laid back beat easy to drift off to.
Need some change ups when it runs that long.
Side B: Some real dark chops that mold the journey together, nice composition!!
Quick strike: Stand alone beat, should really take the battle, all sample used together really well, and that melody that comes in on the synth around the 1 min mark, hell yeah!!
Borat: Lovely Mix, 90's vibe I felt to this, lovely drums and gradual builds are really well orchestrated.
Bliprock: Like a dreamstate a very lucid vibe, very intricate little changes, really have to listen to all the little layeys in this one. But for 4 mins I need more change.
HungryMan:  Why the Long face (the horse!) Loved the drums, wicked patterns, like the groove pocket you found on this one!!
Don Blake: Loved the synth change ups and the whope journey, nice soundscape. The vocal bit just didn't seem to fit, or feel relevent to the piece though, bit out of context.
Ivoryviking: Really wished you put the bass in, BUT!!!! made me listen in another way which I'm grateful for, could really here all the work that went into those drums.
P-Lif: Really liking this youngsters approach, very Old school flava simple but effective, a couple of months and we're gonna have problems keeping up with this cat, a huge difference from his last beat!!
Nomagrof:That dropped at a gig with a decent Emcee over the top it would be a classic, and that sneaky little amen lovely, best drum break ever, and it's never been cleared to be used, which is nut's when you think about it.
KappNeffect: Lovely knock on the drums, lovely canvas for an emcee again! nice work!!
Elmar Jestro: Opening the beat I kept hearing Tom Waits, brilliant when that chopped guitar part comes in, nice swagger to the groove!!
Perfect 5th: Love the way he chopped the guitar player.
Sick The Drumgod: Some of the sample at times seemed to clash, real unique way of chopping samples, but to me it can feel like they don't join and then you hit this bit of Gold for about 2 bars near the end 1.54 and it flowed, more of that man!!
Runme Raw: League of his own, cannot be compared really, you love loops then stay away, you will not get them, you will get a soundscape!!
Vavoom: Another Genius **** love this beat!! sound candy in a big way, pretty sure If Flylo hear Runme and you he would give up, I AM NOT sayin you sound like him, it's better!!!!!!!!!!
Obi-Dan-Kenobi: Passable I suppose, bloody wub wub bass, change the record! can't hide everything under effects, more changes than the British Weather!
Es-K: Made me feel like I was Dick Tracy, that dam Kick as well Jeez!! and the change up was just magnificent !!

Going for Vavoom!! caught me right!!
By Vavoom Sat Apr 20, 2013 2:31 pm
