browsing the comparison chart.. these are 2 things i really wanted in osxl that are happening in os3

Customize of MAIN button X <<shit is annoying
Start/End point adjustment of a sample (Program mode) O
(A function equivalent to a Non-Destructive Chop)

since it os3 seems to be 128xl for the stock screen, did 128xl fix the issue with the volume differences between audition and record input on the record/trim screens..?

Great news! 128XL has pad-specific note repeats, right? Will be nice to get that for the small screen for sure :)

BTW, speaking of feature requests, anyone know if extended MIDI I/O capabilities have been requested? If we could perform multitimbral MIDI out action (ie. diff pads sending mididata to diff. MIDI ports/outs from the same track), I'd really get the most out of my setup without using a computer just to layer some MIDI etc.. Or does 128XL already cater to this?!

Cheers

I sent a message regarding levels the other day. I was told that in OS128XL the levels were pretty coherent (would be cool if a XLCD user could confirm).

Regarding the issue between record mode and trim mode, there's a slight difference but you also have to take into account your master level. If it's set at -6 or -12 it will sound weaker when auditioning.

Otherwise for the next os2xl update a fix is under investigation for the replay level in load mode (which is approximately 3dB weaker from what I noticed). Nothing sure but as usual let's wait & see :)

I really like the idea of this feature added in OS128XL and can't wait to try it out.

Checked out the feature chart to compare to os2xl, and I'm disappointed.

The only improvement that entices me is the tempo reference in Trim mode:

Otherwise, it looks like OS3 is actually REMOVING features, some of which I use :Sigh:

Pass.

may as well call it like it is... it's gonna be a free OS for JJ customers anyway...

True that there are major features missing on OS3, but 128xl is still work in progress and was really bare-bones when it first emerged.

Well it's always the same concern when a new OS is announced.

What's bothering me is that it's marketed as OS128XL "trial", "demo", "small screen" version or whatever. I would have preferred OS3 first and then OS3XLCD on steroid version. When there will be more small screens users than large screen users I guess the development of the OS will take another direction.

Remember when the first versions of the first OS3 consisted in putting 2k5 features in the 1K. It was short and after that JJ OS got to another level. Sounds a bit similar to me.

Anyway speculation as usual, time will tell so let's wait and see :)

This gives me good reason to get a second MPC 1k or maybe even 2.5k!

No pad aftertouch would keep me from using OS3 as my main machine though.

I finally had a chance to go throught he comparison chart and noticed that there are some features that I use on a regular basis that are not in OS3; I may be able to work around the missing features but I'm just not sure that OS3 is really giving me enough new useful features to make the trade-off worth it. The biggest improvements in OS3 for my workflow are...

-Display of the track mixer on the main screen
-Seeing both the right and left side of a stereo wave form in TRIM
-The new look of the RECORD screen
-New layout in the EFFECT screen
(These are cool but just more of a visual thing than anything else, which is nice don't get me wrong but you'd have to get the big screen to take full advantage of it)

-NDC in PROGRAM mode
(Seems like it could be quicker to get your chops done, would love to try it out)

-Addition of copy bank
(Can't remember the last time I needed to copy a whole bank but it can be very useful and a time saver when needed)

-AHDSR (added Hold)
-Detection of tempo in TRIM
(these are the features that would actually add something to the way I work right now right off the bat)

I'm down to try OS3 when it comes out, it's free so why not, but I still don't see myself leaving OS2XL just yet much less buying the large screen. Does anyone know how the big screen layout is gonna work on the small screen? Is it gonna look different or will there be a way to switch views from the top half to the bottom half?
