It's hard to discuss the business model of the Ren without dropping the 'M' word.

so MaZe what stuff is missing please get down to the nuts and blots we might get something positive from your insight (well you gotta hope  )
yeah step edit we got that one
please don't say use without the computer we've been up and down that one like a game of snakes and ladders and i've gotta say a day on new bit of kit is not gonna give a true reflection of the workflow i gotta a 4000 and it not been on much since the ren arrived.i only use it for sampling.

i guess in an ideal world we'd have carbon copies of 60 3000 2000xl 4000 1000 2500 5000 500 and s3000xl thrown in for good measure in software form loaded into the Ren but we haven't but we may get the best bits before the computer os's got out of date

so Tutor i assume that akai just sold the name or the brand as they say and not the brain work behind it and of course the lost in translation element comes into it. i know i could wiki it but i just want the cut'n'shut version

If you are trying to troll me, that's not going to work. I'm too old to play silly forum games. You have 4000, answer your own question. And if you can't figure out what's missing, you never figured out how to use the 4000 to it's full potential. Hell, I've had it for years and I learn new things every day.

Also, if you are a true MPC user, you don't even need an entire day on the Ren to figure out what's missing. That takes 10 minutes, if that.

missing but it compensated by whats been added and is potentially going to be added
the rens not everyone's bag we been through it all a thousand times hence the reaction to your post, which is far enough. but if you had read through the form before purchase or posting you would have found all your answers.

I read through the forum for weeks before buying the Ren. Reading does not replace doing. And I have plenty of positive ideas for the Ren but seeing as how many of these ideas have already been brought up, it's not necessary to add them. Though I do have several more. Again, I have used and owned MANY Akai products and I am sure there are many people here who have as well. And I am sure that there are people out there looking at their 2000, 1000, 3000, 4000, etc. and wondering if they should get the Ren so, I was just basically giving my 2 cents to those who may have been or may be in the same position I am/was. And, I am thoroughly happy that you are enjoying the Ren. That is truly great. If you can make great music with it, all the better.

so true and good thread. Been using MPC's since 92. I have to agree with what you are saying. Not to bash the REN but mine has been on the bench since the 1.2 update. I'm hoping 1.4 brings me back. Akai needs to really step up the development or partner up with someone who already does it good. Just my opinion.

all sad but true.. I bought the studio spent a full day on it and put it back in the box. At the moment it doesn't make sense using it when I have a 4000 and 3000 sitting side by side at my disposal. Akai, now step your up some more. Hope 1.4 is just the beginning!

Exactly. I have the 4000 loaded with multisampled instruments and 1000s of drums with an adat out piping into my Mac within a foot of me. Doesn't make sense to use the Ren if it can't even tell me something as basic as the exact time that my notes are hitting...Makes me wonder how anyone can even make a track without knowing something so simple. I assume that if you are quantizing everything and if you blindly let the Ren control your swing, you know when your notes are hitting, but I don't make music like that. Maybe I'm crazy. I'm certainly not talented enough, like say a Ray Charles or a Stevie Wonder. I actually have to see the notes. Wish I was that talented.

It's also wild to me see all of these "out there" feature requests when the Ren doesn't have the basics covered yet. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

Like everyone else, I agree Step Edit is a needed feature but certainly not for the same reasons.

Currently, the Ren has a huge sequencer grid displayed across multiple modes that shows you exactly where the notes are hitting. If not knowing the exact numerical position that a note hits on a sequencer timeline prevents anyone from creating music today...it makes me wonder how music was composed prior to 1983?

You are the one that made that statement that needed to be addressed. :WTF:
