I'm hoping someone working with the same (or similar) setup can help me.

I'm using the MPD32 as controller for Ableton Live. Works like a charm.

Now, I want to add my MPC2000xl to the setup. I want to be able to play tracks from the MPC so they follow the bpm count set in Ableton. I've mapped one of the knobs on the MPD32 to control the bpm in Ableton - how can I make the MPC2000xl a slave?

...midi clock send out in Ableton routed to mpd....in the midi / sync pfeferences of live...
...mpd physical midi out port connected to one of the midi in ports of the mpc....
....midi sync preferences in the mpc on external sync via the port you choosed....

but controling the tempo of ableton via an endless knob encoder can cause trouble....

you better fix the tempochanges in the clipscenes by writing the wished tempo like 136bpm directly into the scene name, then ableton changes the tempo automaticly whenever a scene is saying so, or change tempo manually in abletons tempofield....

Thanks for the quick reply! Still can't figure it out though.

I've connected the MPD32 (midi out) to the MPC2000xl (midi in 1) via midi cable.

IN MPC2000xl MIDI/SYNC WINDOW MY SETTINGS ARE:

(In: 1)
Mode: Midi Clock
Shift early (ms): 0
Receive MMC: On

IN ABLETON, MIDI/SYNC PREFERENCES ARE:

Control Surface: MPD32 / Input: MPD32 / Output: MPD32

Takeover Mode: None

Midi ports:

Input: MPD32 / Track: On / Sync: On / Remote: On
Sync type: Midi Clock

Output: MPD32 / Track: On / Sync: On / Remote: On
Midi clock type: Pattern

Can you tell me which settings I need to change?

Thanks!

...don't remember exactly what the old os in the mpc says exactly instead.....but your sending a simple midi clock which is fine....but your mpc is waiting for mmc right now....

that was used to sync to tape machines in long gone days.......what else can you choose from in the mpc sync in fields.....?

try something else there.....but switch mmc off for sure....and also make sure ableton is master only.....sending out only and not trying to recieve at the same time....

rest seems fine and should work this way....

and hey, don't forget that your moc only starts running if it is not standing on an empty sequence.....

Not much to choose from in the MPC sync in window. Two midi options: Midi clock and midi time code. And two mmc options: On and off ;) I'll make sure midi clock is selected and mmc is off.

As far as Ableton goes, it's supposed to be the master, right? So should I set the midi input or output to sync? (The MPD is selected as both input and output and I have three options for both input and output; track, sync and remote)

Thanks so much!
