Forum to discuss all matters relating to the MPC1000 and MPC2500 operating systems created by 'JJ' (all versions).

i saw on JJ's site the comparison chart between OS2XL and OS3, some things one does/doesn't, some things the other does/doesn't .... so a bit tough to decide.
but overall what are the reasons JJ brought out OS3 ? i suppose OS3 must do or allow some things that OS2XL doesn't.

basically, as a user of OS2XL/MPC1000 BK would i benefit from OS3 ??

(for now i am sticking to OS2XL) :)

Bug fixes: MPC2500 OS-XL Ver3.31 25-APR-2013
------------------------------------------------------------------
1. After recording by an audio track, if other recording is carried out to the same track by LOOP ON and stopped, it will crash.

2. [TRIM PgmMode]

[EDIT PITCH SIFT]
The sample which is different at the time of an audition is pronounced.

3. [MIDI/SYNC BUTTON]

A screen is strange, when the Input field is turned ON after receiving MIDI data.

4. [LOAD]

The level of the audition was corrected.

5. Installation of OS3 is possible.

i've separated into pros and cons. YMMV, this is all from my perspective.

pros of 3/128xl:

pad cycle mode is a big one with great implications for modelling acoustic drums/stepthru samples

best grid editing

individual pad repeats are good for some styles
both forms of chopping is better in os3/128xl

better track overview and editing functionality

AHDSR envelope

voice priority (prevent longer samples from being cut by shorter ones)

incoming midi filter

copy bank

spp loop support

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

cons of 3/128xl: (as of April 25th, 2013)

no COPY PARAM shortcut in GPE (hold undo/tap other pad to copy param)

qlink functionality is decreased in os3/128xl

no pad aftertouch currently in os3/128xl

less external CC control of internal parameters (filter, FX) in os3/128xl

no individual L / R outputs: must select LR and pan accordingly

os2xl can load multiple files in differnet places in audio tracks

LFO > PAN is an awesome feature too!

Would love to see copy param, q-link (been using it a lot lately) and midi CC control of internal params from OS(2)XL updated to this new OS.

OS 128/OS3 had to be dumb-ed-down in comparison to XL to accommodate the CPU draw down from the bigger screen.

It looks like JJ learned a few new tricks while developing the 128 big screen like
voice priority (to prevent longer samples from being cut by shorter ones) to work around the drawback.

these are really big problems for me.

aftertouch & the q-links are the two most expressive controls on the mpc.
... and the q-links were already gimped quite a bit in os2xl!

Personally I think os3 looks like a major step backwards and I will not be uopgrading, even if its free. Many, many good suggestions and feature requests have been posted inn the forum but looks like jj isn't interested in any of them, or my money, cos I'd happily pay for progress. Dumbing down the already bad cc and qlinks is not what I want.

this was explained not to be the case.

Well I would show you the comment JJ made on this but unfortunately it has been scrubbed from the forums. As you can see by going to the thread:
What happen to OS 3?

For conversation lets say what you are saying is true then the only reason left is the programmer not wanting to put features in cause of reasons I rather not state. I say this because loss of features was first blamed on lack of memory.

Is this the reasoning behind different versions with different features? If it is, it is illogical when you are capable of giving one robust version of the OS.

If JJ want to make money, listen to the people.

If JJ wants to make no money, keep doing what Corporations do: What they want to do--JJ Sequencer, Big Screen, taking features out. Sounds like the Ren train wreck.

from the source: the screen is irrelevant to any concerns of the CPU consumption. end speculation.

there are many, many reasons behind different versions with different features. we still have people using os1 here because they don't want to part with their 4 velocity layers and velocity-dependent parameter modulation.

meanwhile, not to be paranoid but ... just maybe change the title so as not to freek out some of our more delicate members? your call and i don't want to come across as censoring anything. i just want to see the os128xl momentum continue. JJ destroyed LOOP EDIT in OS128XL !

So can you explain to me what happened to the many early negative posts about the big LCD went? Why and Who deleted the many threads in these forums?

If you want to sell ice to a newborn Eskimo, by all means get your paper, but don't expect people that know better to buy it. People want to buy an extension of XL. No-one cares what it is called(OS3,OS4,OS5) and that JJ will be charging more.

By you trying to collect donations tells me who's team you are on.

my 7 year involvement in the jjos community speaks for itself. if you're trying to imply i'm not on the level, then you need some history lessons. this forum hasn't needed anything more than casual moderation since 2008/09, there is no conspiracy to silence anyone's concerns or complaints, as evidenced by that quote you mined from my history in response to an alarming and ultimately mistitled thread.

It does and I hope we can agree that we don't want the difference between OS2XL and OS3 to be missing features from OSXL2.

Locking a thread is one thing but deleting the whole thing is stifling freedom of speech. I needed that thread as reference. Is this the meaning of NYM

ps you know TONA is coming for your boys...the Titles you display are Of Nobility now i understand the way you Act.
