Forum to discuss all matters relating to the MPC1000 and MPC2500 operating systems created by 'JJ' (all versions).

Sup MPC Forums I've been laying-low waiting on JJ to return to the small screen. I didn't want to say anything bad about the big screen in fear I might jeopardizes sales.

On top of that I finally understood how everyone felt when jj started working on the JJ sequencer instead of XL features. I think alienated is the word--lol. It felt like JJ was the new Akai ignoring us, but I understood he wanted to do something new.

I'm glad JJ is giving out the big screen OS for free cause I really want to buy a continuation of XL.

Anyway the worst thing about the JJ OS is this OS has this and this OS has that. IMO he needs to stay focused on what we as users want in XL and build from there.

i'm going thru and reading the OS128XL manual, seeing what's what, & preparing a ton of requests for OS3 to send to JJ.

it appears to me that OS128XL has gained a lot of authoring features, but lost a lot of realtime manipulation & live jamming capabilities. this is where my interests lie and where most of my requests will be directed at.

the q-links absolutely need major attention. think about the 1000: besides the pads you've only got 2 sliders & the data wheel. that's not a lot of hardware controls to tweak so i think it's all the more important to make maximum use out of what you've got available. to take 2 sliders & then make it so you can only use one at a time is crazy, especially when we know the machine is capable of it (see os1 & 2 + the akai os).

i see some stuff in OS3 that is promising (pad cycle is cool and i like the new TRANSPOSE function in the q-links), but i think JJ needs to think of the mpc more as a live performance instrument as opposed to just a studio tool.

what ya mean sooty? XL has pad cycle already!
Of course i do not agree about the need for it to be more live>maybe practice more huh 8) jokes aside, it can be both and agree that any improvement is good but not to the detriment of authoring as you call it.

After looking over the JJ comparison chart twice, I'm genuinely curious and hafta wonder what are the feature that so many of you would be missing out on?

For my needs OS3 would be a nice Upgrade. I really would only be missing the "Overlap Inst" and not at all that much either. Admittedly, I am not using my 1k in a live capacity.

i think the big ones are aftertouch, qlink ALL, and multiple qlink passes.
none of which are features i use since i use a DAW but they are very important to people using their MPC standalone.

the pad cycle in OS128XL is different. in OS2XL, cycle only works when you physically hit the pad. it has no effect with recorded pad hits in a sequence.

in OS128XL, pad cycle works both ways. so you can have the cycling occurring on recorded pad hits as the sequence plays. it makes a big difference.

Around 1:26 is that monitering the audio input? Could that be a previous sampling option? Just don't really understand what I'm seeing. I somehow really like it though. Whatever it is.

i have been hoping that he could do parallel development for small/big screen os's, much like he did for the 2500/1000 os's.

How is that great news when the big screen draws down the CPU. If this is the case the OS is now confined to limits set by the big screen.

JJ needs to break away from the big screen nonsense. OS2XL was just about done then all of a sudden here comes the big screen distraction.

Simultaneous sequences were taking out because the big screen couldn't handle it. What about the CPU upgrade that was going to be available to solve the problem.

you've been told twice now, with confirmation from the developer, that this is not the case.

This definitely has enough benefits to make it worth giving a try.

The features removed may outweigh the ones that were added. But it's so close that I can't know till I've tried it.

If there is no more voltage drops from the screen that is great. That means he can add simultaneous sequences back in or is there a different reason why it cannot be added.

NYM> In OS128XL how main screen looping works? In OS2XL I have my F1 key customized to LOOP because of that stupid specification change. Is this issue remaining in OS128XL?

Regarding TEMPO, it looks great, is this function integrated with other trim functions? Can you discard, extract, slice...etc ?

Personally I would be interested in a more "accurate" TAP TEMPO function (i.e more taps that give the average value) . For instance it's very useful when you are listening to records before sampling or when you want to do live things. I'm always surprised when people ask for the moon but don't care about improving basic functions.

From what I think I guess from the video, you can see both L and R channels in TRIM now, seems it's making "vertical" zoom useless.

Other concern regarding the new slice function, what happens if you use a 2 or 3 minute long sample?

Regarding the new record function the peak indicator seems to be four dots, would be better if it was a huge black square in my opinion.

The track edit function looks nice, it was really missing in all previous OS

I don't like how the LFO/MUTE button is shared, it seems better in OS2XL

Switching easily from pad mixer to track mixer with a similar display is a good idea.

I know that watching a video and having hands on the MPC is different thing but from what I'm seeing I guess the small screen is not adapted to show both L and R channels at the same time. It will probably be a major source of complaints.
