As an example this is what a remote script looks like, it's actually not super complicated but might look overwhelming if you've never dug inside any code before.

Code: Select all# Config File for User-defined Instant Mappings

# We assume that the controls on your MIDI controller
# send CCs (except for pads). All controls that do not have
# an explicit channel setting are expected to use the
# global channel. CCs & Notes are counted from 0-127
# and channels from 0-15.

[Globals]
# The channel that the controller should send on
GlobalChannel: 13
# If your controller is connected via USB, replace ControllerName

Akai would need to provide us with a way to cut off the communication with the MPC software to switch into a MIDI mode, if I'm correct though that would also mean that they would have to do something about the software producing silence when the hardware isn't connected.... uh oh :hmmm:

Airyck wrote:So that makes me think that with a proper script you might be able to control Ableton with bi-directional communication, but it's beyond a basic user unless they want to do a bunch of reading and digging in.

Also if you did pull it off, you'd only be able to either use the MPC as a generic MIDI controller or as a controller for the MPC software but not both at the same time. Without some way to sever the connection to the MPC software it will continue to steal the data coming from the controller.

It Could be interesting to have the technical resource from AKAI. For the MIDI communication and the audio scheme. Just to understand even more this Gear.
As I remember, the noobies-manual only shows User operation but don't give exhaustive technical explanation on how works the software and the hardware internally.

A MIDI Track serves this purpose.

What an aswer :) JAH you just say it because you think this feature is useless. lol
We're requesting all possibilities to exploit our softwares.

I totally agree...we need an special midi mode like maschine has....I connected my maschine controller for trigger samples in Battery and Groove Agent One...yesterday I was not able to trigger those vst instruments like my maschine controller and mpd 32 can...i dont want to trigger those instruments via the MPC software...cmon Akai....please give us this feature... we have on the REN a screen , knobs and pads....

I say this because using a MIDI track in the Ren serves the purpose of routing MIDI to the destination of your choice without triggering internal sounds.

I am fully aware of what the Ren can't do. And visited the forum everyday, users and non-users alike remind us of these facts everyday. So I have to sprinkle a few gems every now and then to let people know what it can do....

I'm fully Aware I can control Kontakt, Battery or any VST from a Midi track on the REN and record it in my Daw without using the REN's sequencer.

But Could be nice to have a real multitimbral MPC plugin + Pgm to Midi. Look Battery has a lot of virtual outputs and can be mapped easily.

Again, U know a sequencer is a sequencer, in Cubase there's swing options, Auto-quantize, Overdub, Layering Midi record, and a lot of Midi editing tools.

I bought the REN for sampling purpose, slicing quickly, create and tweak programs easily in my DAW, not only to Use the MPC Sequencer... And It could be more, really more usefull if an option allow the MPC plugin to work like a kind of battery.

Hope AKAI will do It, otherwise I'll do without

I'm using Sequencer since 1993 C-Lab (Notator) 1040 Atari St.
Workflow was Akai S 950 Sampler... Midi @Atari ST...Recording notes and make Loops with the sequencer.

same thing with my powerpc 7200:-D
Sampler Akai S1100 and recording notes with logic 2.0.

The same in the year 2013
Mac Pro i7 Nahelm Octo with Logic 9.1.8 sequencer and the MPC ren.

Why i must using the seq in the Ren?
i have the same workflow since over 20 years.

Important for me is 64 bit...uff Akai is the last plug in in 32 bit. :P
i hope in 1.4 it will come.

next is to use more then one Ren plug in in the sequencer.
and very important is that i can play direkt my notes in logic with the ren.

then it is for me a good integration in the daw.

Another Tracker User here :)

Why must we Use the Ren's sequencer when All we need is a fully integrated Sampler-Drumbox with a tiny software User Interface and, obviously, Hardware controlled.
No need for wiring and midi configuration between hardware. Easy to use, economic to set and creativity stimulant.

Please Hear Us AKAI !

I def agree wth Everyone on this post that using the ren as a sampler plugin on your fav daw with it being multitimbral(each pgm/track is a midi channel/vitual port and can recieve midi, each pad gets assigned a midi note. Exactly how Kontakt works.. It is a multitimbral sampler ...) And simply then using the hardware as a midi controller(switching it's mode to add pgms to tracks silicing samples then switching back to midi mode so you can sequence midi in daw) is the most powerful intergration feature you can have.. I think, instead of being a host for vsts, it should be a vst plugin and not host vst effects/instruments at all Just be a solid sampler . There would be Less third party headache and tech/support to accomodate for when dealing with hosting vsts as the big daws already deal with this ...

The problem i always seem to come across is that big daws are great multitrackers and midi sequencers... awsome mixers... excellent routing... the best vst support and handling.. But their built in samplers always lack just a little something(atleast the daws i've used)... and there isn't a great midi controller that can control almost all of the daw itself... although the push controller has almost nailed it with ableton..

I've recently got the ren and because i like mpcs, i really like it.. But i see it's short comings.. I love sequencing mpc style.. But i love sequencing in reaper much much more... (especially using 1k with jjos,, And also the 5k aswell) It always ends up in reaper.. Always..... I'm sure that most users would end up in another daw.. Making that transition either painless or integrated Is the winner...

+1 for mpc track assigned to midi channel with pads assigned to notes...
(this way you could change pgms in the track but your daw would still have that sequence on the same midi channel...ie different pgm kits loaded so you could audition them with your sequence from the daw.. Shit is endless and powerfull )
