Hello,

I'm trying to find a way to program a manual stop/cut off to a sample that is triggered and playing.

For example if I have a 4 bar length sample that I want to loop for its full length 3 times, then cut off short the fourth time.

I used to achieve this on the MPC 500 by adjusting the velocity on the pads so that when selecting the multi-level function the last pad would be silent.

I dont seem to be able to do this on the 1000 with JJ OS2XL.

No matter how I adjust the velocity the lowest pad is still audible.

Is there another way to do this other then using note-on or a second silent pad?

Thanks.

Will LOOP&HOLD not work?

I have not tried this method, but perhaps you can select "Cycle" in Mute/Simult and select your two targets as being the looping pad and a silent. That might toggle the loop. Make sure the program is set to mono.

But with loop and hold dont I have to trim my sample to an even "on time" length?

I never do that and dont really want to be restricted by that.

I want to be able to hit the pad in manually note-on style as usual and then program a mute like another drum hit.

Its probably just me, but I never liked the sound of note-on/holding the pad type triggering for samples.
Especially when you're doing a lot of looping.

It sounds irregular and messy to me.
(And I'm totally ObCom about that.)

I actually did look at that and it would probably work,
but then I'd be using 2 pads again.

In which case it would be simpler to just program the empty pad as a drum pad.

It might just be one of the things that the MPC's just cant do.

I'm not sure that the 500 was supposed to be able to do it either.

I think it might have been a quirk/bug,
like playing sequences in the load screen,
since you had to set the lowest velocity to 11 instead of actually zero to get the lowest pad silent.

But I would think that there would be a way to do it other then note-on with all the other arcane things the 1000 and JJOS can do.

I've been using that rather simple multi-level trick since the SP 1200.

Thanks for the tips though man.

I'm going to see if I can get LoopHold to work somehow.

Not sure if I completely follow what you're trying to do, but here's one more idea.

Image

Again, untested. But try setting the same sample on two layers. One with a velocity range of 0-60 and volume zero. The other velocity range 61-127 volume max. Set the pad to mono rather than poly. A lighter hit might turn it off.

EDIT: This does work. Set layer #1 with your sample and desired vel range. Layer #2 needs no sample, and keep vel range default.

Thanks a lot for the idea Consuming.

I'm still trying to,

1. Wrap my mind clearly around the concept your describing.
(I get it in general.)

And
2. Recreate it.

While at the same time still figuring my way around the basic differences of the JJos.

I'm getting there.

Hopefully you wont mind if I do end up needing further guidance when I finally do get there.

Thanks again.

No problem. To reiterate, this method would trigger the sample as long as the pad was hit over a certain velocity. It would stop when the pad was hit again under that velocity threshold. And I forgot to mention, FULL LEVEL must be off.
