MPC60 emits noise (old transformer?)

He states that it works alright in his machine. And if the backlight would go out earlier than expected, they are still pretty cheap.

One person recommending it, without necessarily any idea, does not make it good.

Others are reporting that there is bleed from the USB inverters into the audio signal.

No one really has any idea of what any difference in the load on the MPC power supply is.

OK, so I received my backlight from midi-rakete.de promptly, and installed it without any fuss. I tested it with my noisy inverter, and it worked.

I removed the inverter, desoldered the metal housing, replaced the capacitor and added a thick layer of tape around the metal ring. I would roughly estimate that the noise/whine from the inverter is 1/4 of the intensity of what it used to be, but it still irritates me.

Unfortunately I found that the backlight itself emitted noise. Guess I'll try to order a more silent one from saint_baz on Ebay.

If they are anything like the junk Akai used in the MPC2500/1000/etc., then you might be reporting back in the next year or so.

Yeah, the tact switches on the MPC1000/2500 are really crappy. I've heard good things about these particular tact switches though.

I was the OP of the thread you're talking about.
At the moment, my mpc is at a local tech to change to EU voltage and he is also trying to find a solution for the inverter noise.

I replaced the backlight with a new "silent" one, but the noise still here...

Was the new "silent" one a backlight from saint_baz? I've ordered a new backlight from him hoping that it would be more silent than the one from midi-rakete.de.

But I think I can live with the noise from the foil if I can eliminate the noise coming from the inverter. Luckily I received my new inverter yesterday and will be installing it shortly.

Yesterday I received the Gotek SFRM-72FU floppy drive emulator, installed it in my MPC60, and it works perfectly. You don't even need to change any jumpers.

The instructions and software that came bundled with the floppy drive may give rise to confusing though.

Use "usb-floppy-format-tool_v123_sfd" to format the USB drive to 720 kB format. It works in Windows 7 and 8.

I found the instructions in this pdf most comprehensible: "SFR1M44-GU FU SFRM72-GU FU for TAJIMA HAPPY BARUDAN SWF.pdf".

That's good to know. The whole 'you need Win XP' was stopping me from pulling the trigger on the USB emulator.

Can you say precisely what you had to do to format the USB stick under Win7, and is the driver software on one of those mini CD's or will it go into a slot load CD Rom??

Perhaps a seperate step by step type thread on this would be better, to help others find the information when searching. Can you do that, with a title like "formatting USB for Gotek Emulator"??

The software is on a mini CD, so I guess it won't load into a slot load CD-ROM.
