Moving Records 900 Miles

Hello fellow crate diggers and MPC users. I am currently residing in North Carolina and i am moving in a couple of days to sunny South Florida. I am looking for some tips on how to package and move my records and how to keep them safe for the 16 hour trip. Any feedback is appreciated. Thank you.

vertical, horizontal? i say horizontal so the pressure keeps em flat so they don't warp. accepting any tips

Word, I've seen bubble wrap where you pump air and it forms into a 4ft blanket about 3" thick that is foldable with the dead space between the plastic footballs. They look like clear footballs to me.

do not store them horizontally, you're logic is totally off.
the weight + the heat could actually warp them.
pack them tight as possible vertically - the best thing to use is a specially made dj record case, but some boxes might work too.

if you go with milk crates, make sure to get ones wide enough - you can find these at target, walmart, office depot, etc.

treat yourself to a nice record case and keep your most prized ones in that.

Mail them as "Media Mail" using the USPS. It's totally legit and legal as records meet the exact "media" definition the USPS uses. It's about 66% cheaper although they may take two to three times as long to arrive.

They don't list vinyl records but only because it's 2013, they are the seen the same as CD's or DVD's in their eyes.

this is another option if you don't have too many (i could never do this).

but then you are trusting your records to someone and guaranteed they will sit in the sun at some point...and summer is just starting.

It was like 1000 pieces at least and it went from CA to NY exactly the same as when I packed it all. I was filling U-Haul boxes and the postage was like $20 or less a box.

my parents keep telling me to put then horizontal but I don't know. please give me more tips the moving truck is coming thurday night! remember heat is an issue

store them in milk crates. pack the records into the crate pretty tight---fill the crate up.
dont leave them in your car if it gets to hot.

do not stack the records on top of each other.

a 16 hour car ride isnt to much to worry about. its not that hot now that the heat is something to really worry about. dont leave the records in your car tho, and if you do, make sure to leave the windows open.

thats pretty much it.

amazing - i would have never thought that cheap.

i'll say it again - do not store them horizontally.

16 hours that's easy enough to do in a day without even worrying about it.

thank you for all the feedback. im just really worried about them warping since it will be a 16-20 hour ride in the back of the moving truck. im packing them in tight and im filling in the loose gaps with tshirts and newspaper/bubble wrap

packing them in 14x14 since a lot of them have plastic outer sleeves
