Just trying to use The REN as a plug-in inside Ableton Live and everything works fine (multi out, transport, etc..) except i cant figure out how to control vsts hosted in Live from the REN sequencer.

The REN as plug-ins outs just on channel 1 from an unknown output...and if i try to use mpc port 1 or 2, from the scroll down menu of any midi channel (input), they seems dead  no signal coming through at all.

Maybe im setting something wrong within Live, or just is some sort of limitation.

Any help is gonna be apreciated, thanks!

Do you tried to set a MIDI track on the REN and then select the MPC-1 as Midi Input in the Ableton Midi track ?

MPC Port 1 and 2 are both input of the hardware, no signal coming from the software but from external controller or sequencers plugged In.

This is for pro-tools and work in Cubase to. Have heard problems with Ableton but not sure it's concerning this thread...

Use the Search function in this forum. There is a thread on how to set this up in Live that was active in the past week.

Yes i tried it.

Inside the ren (as plug-in) i got the first 3 tracks as midi on port A, first track channel 1, second track channel 2 and 3rd channel 3.

In Live i got three midi tracks in which there are 3 vsts instruments (massive, fm8, absynth) these tracks have as input mpc-1.

The problem is that the mpc plug outs midi just on channel 1 and the vsts instruments accept the midi just from that channel, you can choose different channel as input

I dont know if is a Live limitation.

Even i tried with the external instrument (that normally you would use for multi timbral instruments) but another time i cant route the midi from mpc to synths properly.

In PT 10 i dont have any problems, even i can register realtime midi from PT into the mpc and send it back to aax-rtas instruments, so the midi routing is two-way.

In Logic, sending midi back an forth, does not work due to AU limitations.

This may help if you sort through the bickering...

Sorry..I just reread your post. There is a limitation with the current version of Live. It can't do exactly what Pro Tools does in this regard.

Yeah i suppose that, i was searching for confirmation.

Basically what i was trying to achive is: sending midi on different channnels, from the internal sequencer of a multi-timbral vst instruments (MPC), to other vsts inside Live.

These instruments that receive midi are mono-timbral (fm8, massive) or multi-timbral (kontakt).

Anyway i ended up just loading massive, kontact, absynth and fm8 inside the REN as plug-in, but this tax my cpu alot cause the REN it aint multicore and the 8 mpc outs are not enough to track out all the sounds...too bad...

I was thinking of using the ren standalone and sending midi to instruments in Live through physical midi out ports from the mpc hw to my soundcard.

But even like that remain the problem i cant send the audio realtime to Live s audio tracks input.

I should try to use soundflower, but i guess is gonna be a pain...now having Rewire inside the ren would be very usefull!

What you are trying to do is exactly what I have been doing in Pro Tools and is pretty much what MPC users have been doing here with hardware MPCs and DAWs for quite some time.

Have you tried using the Ren in standalone mode and attempting to do the same thing? Another alternative is to export your plugin tracks as audio then insert them on an MPC Drum or Keygroup track so it won't bog down your CPU.

Edit - you beat me to the punch....
