cleaning stuff for music equipment

Not sure where to put it so placed it here.

Got the MV today and its disgusting filthy its caked in grime, dust and probably semen if I had to guess.

I put a complaint in via ebay however, I still like to keep it but what kind of stuff do I need to remove the grime in the buttons, metal chassis and pads?.

This is what I use in the studio for all of my hardware and desk. Safe on all surfaces and electronics. Even removes dust, grime, and smudges. It smells good too.

wet cloth spray a single spray wipe it down, clean cloth, rinse repeat, final wipe with water only when I say water only

****make sure the cloth aint soaked so its just damp.

then dry and you should have a germ free machine.

im gonna be honest with you... the best way to get it really really clean... is to take it apart and wash the button caps in water in the sink.. being able to really scrub the case in water etc..... but it isn't easy on the 8000 to get to that part of the machine.. it really isn't. it's not hard, but it is tedious and there are a lot of components and ribbons to take out.. everything has various types of screws plus it involved detaching everything from the back panel cause the ins and outs are bolted to that etc..

so maybe if you can use a toothpick to scrape out around the button edges.. use some cleaner on a damp rag.. that might be better for you for now...

Also Mr Debausch you're correct I'm not comfortable opening the MV, kinda daunting.

Also when you have mad grime, don't expect to get it all off in one go. The grimiest areas will need multiple cleaning attempts, it comes of in layers a little bit at a time. I recommend 'Sugar Soap' spray, which is used to remove grease from surfaces prior to painting. An old toothbrush and toothpick are good to have around too for nook and crannies.

Nothing beats pulling it apart and cleaning buttons in water with dishwashing liquid, properly cleaning in all the button/pad holes on the faceplate, etc.

yeah but the mv is a different beast altogether.

OK trip to Asda

1x Pledge Multi Surface Spray
1x Parczone Bacteria Wipes
1x Toothbrush

Success, sprayed the toothbrush with the Pledge and went into the buttons and faders. Got rid of the gunk that was surrounding them and now work perfectly- best to my knowledge. I can actually touch them for starters

Pads I use the bacteria wipes to get rid of the rubbish on them, it was disgusting but now they look great and clean, most importantly work.

Then it was again a case of using the wipes to clean the case and it went really well, couldn't get rid of the glue polyester cement type glue in some areas but that's minor.

The right sides needs replacing, has a crack on the corner on one of them. However, spent a good hour cleaning it and its look the bomb. I try and open it once I become more accustomed to it.
