Love the minimal approach. I know my setup is not minimal but I do use it as such.

Hi All,
I don't really understand why so many people in here have multiple MPC's. Can someone explain to me whether you multiple owners are using them together somehow or is it just a "sometimes I want to do it this way instead of that way kinda thing"?

Or is it that you bought one moved on and the other is just sitting there for show?

There can be several reasons. The most obvious is the sound. The MPC 60 sounds different from the 3000 which sounds different from the 4000. The second is options. Chopping samples on the 3000 is different from chopping on the 4000 which is different from chopping on the 2500. The third is, to try them out and see if they stick. The fourth is, why not? That's just a couple reasons. I'm sure everyone has their own.

I agree with MaZe. I have multiple MPCs and other samplers to boot. To me they are like mic pres. Each has their sound and place. You wouldnt walk into someones studio and ask why they have so many mic pres, compressors, eqs, synths or the like. Its the same. I run samples through all my samplers until I get the sound I am looking for. Yeah, all the MPCs can all sequence, but each does it in its own way. Why limit yourself to one weapon?

Other reasons I just thought about. The 1000 is more portable than the 4000. The 2500/1000 run JJOS, others don't. On Monday you might feel like working on the 2000xl. On Tuesday you may want to work on the 3000. At one point, I owned the 2000XL (what I started on), the 3000, the 4000, and an s5000 and an s6000. They are all just different. I'm not saying that you (anyone) has to try or even own multiple MPCs but I don't think you (anyone) would understand why someone owns multiple MPCs until you've owned multiple MPCs.

on the topic of guitar players... those dudes are some of the dumbest gear using cats out there. always buying into stupid gimmicks without getting their base sound right, thinking they need 200 watts for rehearsals and small gigs, not even knowing how to use their pedals (let alone amps), shit just goes on

^^^while that is true for some, all the actual guitar players I know and have worked with have multiple guitars due to each having its own unique sound. A Tele and a Strat sound totally different. Like a MPC 60 and a MPC 2000 sound completely different. In both cases they do generally the same thing, but in a different manner. Both have their place. Do you only have one knife in your kitchen?

im definitely NOT knocking having multiple options (i don't even own a guitar, but i know which one i would get as a second one ), but, generalizing, guitarists just tend to **** things up option wise (wrong amps, wrong pedals, having no clue about using said stuff)

but ill say this tho, a beatmaker with multiple mpc's usually can say in quite a lot of detail why he has each one them.. while the usual guitarist has one favorite (the one that makes for the least bad signal chain, combined with the rest of the goofily thought out set up... for example a thin sounding guitar will be the best choice if you had thoughts like 'yeah, bass should be maxed, i need some weight to my sound' while setting up your amp)

but yeah, that ignorance im describing can be due to my personal experiences

Ok...... So I FINALLY picked up a minty fresh ASR-10 with scsi, output expander and foot pedal. Man it sounds gooooood. Now I guess I will not be sleeping tonight.

You really been on a spending spree this past month. MPC60, MPC3000, MPC4000, ASR10. Surely some of your gear must be redundant now, or you plan on keeping everything for the hell of it?
