I could almost do a complete tune with the 4k and analog mixer (mixed down in real time etc) but never enough outs.
I got the Ren a few weeks ago. Last night I fired up the 4k again. It was nice to be back and really showed how much functionality is missing from the ren.
The 4k isnt going anywhere though. Some tunes I know I will want the 4k and others I can do in the box with the Ren - or at least I want to be able to do with the Ren in stand alone mode..
Major stumbling block for me (Ren) is the incredibly stupid idea that the Daw(ish) Ren mixer should operate like the midi mixer on an MPC60 - Sequences tied to the mixer. So if you have multiple sequences and change the mix in any way, on any track - and that includes any plugins you adjust you have to go through every sequence/track and repeat the process. Its impossible to change the mix when you use multiple sequences. its like attaching the entire Pro tools mixing environment to regions - seriously.
That idea was fine 25+ years ago and was probably very cool in its day for a simple midi mixer. But its absolutely not the way to go today. It couldn't be more convoluted.
Ok, a bit off topic - but the reason I bought the Ren is because I like doing stuff with one piece of gear from start to finish. I had no idea the mixing environment of the Ren was a disaster. ill be off now
Welcome to the club back to the 4k!
