My name is Leland Jones, I'm a rapper / producer from Seattle. I've been keeping my mouth shut during all of the Vailixi talk, and I feel like its time to speak up. Now that the cat is out of the bag, I can confirm that Vimana is definitely real. I was helping Rohan by beta testing it on my mpc60s, as he didn't have one at the time. There are a lot of versions, as it was updated constantly. I know that several individuals out there have beta copies. Just as 60 OS 3.10e is to 3000 OS 3.11, Vimana is to Vailixi. The 60 doesn't have the same processing power, so some real-time processing features are limited. Like all software there are bugs. I worked very hard to help Rohan weed them out (I wasn't alone), but there are certainly some. That being said, Rohan writes great code, and both Vailixi and Vimana are as solid (probably more) than any MPC OS. One of the main reasons to attempt Vimana was to cure the "ghost sound" bug that occurs in earlier OSs, which it does. Its a fantastic OS that adds a lot to the 60.
I never met Rohan in person, but he and I became very good friends over the years. I helped him beta test Vailixi, and later Vimana. He taught me how to burn eproms so that he could send me rom images via email. We had a lot of expensive phone calls back and forth, and endless emails too. I'm a big 3000 guy, but I also love the 60 and constantly bugged him about a new OS. I was overjoyed when he put it into action! He was never sure about selling it, because he didn't wanna step on the toes of his friend Roger Linn, who was still selling OS 3.10e at the time.
Out of all the people I've known in my life, Rohan is one of the most talented, intelligent, loving, and respectful people I've ever met. His disappearing from the scene was a shock for me too. I since have some insight into his situation that I've gathered from reliable third parties. Its not my place to put his personal business out there. Suffice it to say, he was not ever trying to rip anyone off, and was literally unable to take the Mansell-Labs site down. At one point, I offered to help get ahold of Rohan, and to possibly facilitate some rom burning for the few peeps that lost their money. Since the intellectual properties weren't mine, and I was no longer able to speak with Rohan, my hands were tied. Rohan never made any profit from Vailixi, it was really a labor of love that truly took a lot of labor, and love. As some of you know, Rohan was always here unselfishly sharing his knowledge. He sure taught me a lot! On top of creating Vailixi / Vimana, he personally helped hundreds of people with their gear. He was a critical component in sorting out the internal card reader situation too. I say that to say this; We miss you Rohan! Your efforts for the MPC community were, and still are very much appreciated! I make my living with my MPC 3000 / 60, and Rohan helped me do that. Love and positive energy in your direction buddy!
I know its hard to have these types of ethical debates with samplists (Me); Make no mistake, the versions of Vailixi available on ebay weren't authorized and aren't even the most current versions! Don't ask me for a copy, I'm not giving anybody one until Rohan personally tells me its ok.
And if you don't know, Vailixi / Vimana are the "spaceships" the "gods" used as described in the Vedas. Pretty fitting if you ask me...
