E-MU SP1200 Faceplate Restoration

3 little sidenotes:

1. the font what what used for the 1200 and emu systems. It is not the same as the OG. Does anybody know what font was original used?
2. The round corners are as far as i see a little to big.
3. On the OG faceplate. I have a little top film over my led indicators. How is this done on the custom one?

When it was released, in 1987, it was very early in the consumer DTP timeline, so I doubt that it was created on a PC/Mac type of computer, if created on a computer at all.

I would be surprised if there is an existing exact match for the font available to use on a computer today, but you never know.

The photos on the previous page do look a little dodgy in that aspect.

I would imagine they are standard print fonts, they look very familiar.

This looks close as well, but not quite right, the 1 on the SP1200 isn't right, for example...

I did a search on the font on whatthefont.
I used the title of the sp1200 book as a reference.

Tonight im gonna measure out my sp1200. I think i can make a exact measured design.

Next step for us should be, to figure out what kind of material was used.
I think its polymeer. But i dont know how thick (UM) it is.
It also is mate laminated.

But how are the led indicators are cut and still have the matte laminated over it?
I assume. the first step is to cutout everything and then laminate the whole thing.

I don't get why Styleflip don't have a library of stock skins for the SP12/1200 and the like. Customisation is cool, preservation of classic design is even cooler.

I'd like to get a new faceplate for my TR-808. After 25 years of use it's scratched and worn all to hell.

Personally, I don't need a faceplate anymore having recently got hold of a minty SP1200 reissue.

Custom Synth had an opportunity to relieve me (and a few others) of some of my money. He's probably got bigger fish to fry to be fair, and a lot of repair work which pays more. Anyone still needing this need to get under Jeff's skin until he springs into action, politely of course.

don't forget about the SP 12 faceplate as well...

Good news! Due to demand we have NEW factory replica SP-12 and SP-1200 faceplate overlays coming. These are not thin cheap vinyl stickers like others have offered in the past, this is an exact replacement made of the same 10mil Lexan E-mu Systems used but with modern materials that will far outlast the original. This is same material we use for our proven Kiwi-106 overlays.

Our initial production run is limited to 30 faceplates (15 SP-12 and 15 SP-1200) to see what the 'real' demand warrants.

Will be great if you can make the SP overlays exactly the same as the originals.

I reckon if you put the word out at the SP forums and on the bay you'll get a fair few orders. People would even grab a spare while they're available, at the right price, of course. Still good news, as loads of SP's are peeling like crazy these days.
