If you guys make a lot of tracks you don't finish sometimes I think its the result of being a perfectionist.

What works for me is saying "look, I'm going to finish this track tonight regardless." Nothing is ever perfect and sometimes a little wonkiness provides a track with a unique character.

I think just staying motivated and steadily finishing tracks is the most important thing I've ever learned with producing.

Totally agree with what you say there. Ive lived by the code - Finish Every Song I start from my earliest days when I went through a period of never finishing anything. Once you get in to the habit of not finishing songs its an incredibly hard habit to break. Ableton Live software is a prime example of software which encourages thousands of users with huge folders of unfinished songs. Hundreds of users on the Ableton forum posting - I cant finish any songs but I have loads of 4 bar loop ideas.
I suspect a similar thing is happening with the Ren.

There is something about the DAW vs. MPC workflow that I couldn't wrap my head around for the longest. I kept playing everything straight through and having some spots sound good and most sound half baked/unfinished. Having the MPC looping the same 8 bars helped me focus on making those 8 bars good, then making variations on those 8 bars, then organizing everything in song mode then dumping into the DAW for finishing. Now I have learned the discipline from the MPC and can apply it when working in Logic. Loop 8 bars or drums, time stretch and pitch shift some random sample over it, bounce in place with effects, drag over to an awaiting slot in a song section. If it's not fun, turn off the machines and catch up on Game of Thrones or something. Come back fresh. Sorry to go OT.
