i need some convincing

i been doin lots of research, but i really cant make my mind up about getting a ren or maby just another mpc (newer)

i kno the cliche pros and cons but i just got 97329749 q's that i want to ask befor i buy truthfully i wanna try it out in person too.

im coming off a 2kxl and i love the damn thing but somethings it just takes a really long time to do certain task. my bigest grief is getting it all into pro tools later ... its somtimes a pain in the ass! thats a whole diff convo tho ... how i freak my drumz in the 2kxl is a big thing for me too. the filter and the tuning sounds good to me and im hesitant that the ren just wont be the same ...

im also a little confused about having 2 interfaces if i get the ren. how the hell does that work ! ... i have a pro fire 2626 can some one please explain it to me a lil how u have ish runnin.


the ease of use makes me really want a ren i can go on and on but u catch my drift ... please convince me or talk me out of it

the best thing you could do is to have a full demo at your local store, then you will know either way. i think this has been the major problem with users crossing over.
the protools thing isn't an issue and Hellfire has some great videos how to set that up.

but it really is try before you buy and not just five minutes a good couple of hrs

Do it! Having two interfaces is GREAT! It allows you to run both the MPC and Pro Tools (or any other production app) at the same time both in standalone mode. So for example, you can use Pro Tools or Reason as a sound module without having to use the Ren as a plugin in Pro Tools. This is achieved through physical midi. It's great! Really enjoying this aspect of the Ren! It basically allows the Ren to operate as a standalone MPC, just like your XL.

It will be similar but not exactly the same. The majority of what you can accomplish on the 2000XL can easily be done on the Ren and then some.

As far as the audio interface...you can use the Ren only....your 3rd party interface only...and both.

To use both:
1. Connect both the Ren and the Pro Fire to your computer via USB and Firewire
2. Connect the outputs of the Ren and any gear you have to the Inputs of the Pro Fire
3. Connect your Monitors to the outputs of the Pro Fire

This is pretty much the same method you would use when connecting your hardware MPC.

Jah, would that be the same as using a Mixer for your whole set up, like a Mackie Onyx which everything is connected to, but also the Mackie can be an interface as well? Thinking about grabbing one of those...

You could substitute the Onyx for the Pro Fire in the described situation. Just be sure to have good Firewire as that's what the Onyx Series uses. Macs are still Texas Instruments Firewire (The best FW Controllers), a recent PC (post 2007 or so will likely not have Firewire or a horrible FW Controller like a JMICRON that will not work period.)

I have the new MB Pro WITHOUT firewire, will a thunderbolt adaptor suffice?

I have bougth a thunderbold to FireWire adaptator Few months ago to connect my UAD satellite to my i5 iMac and it really WORK fine
(my Focusrite soundcard is connected to the main Mac Firewire socket)
