in the electronic music forum on gearslutz, definitely the larger forum of the two (with less 'stupid' hip-hop producers) there is exactly one thread about the ren which is about two years old and hasn't been responded to in months and only had a few posts, and jah dare never say a word over there about the ren because, you know, they're not dumb hip-hop producers over there and they squash that type of cold-shilling whenever it comes up

apparently he has been booted from other sub forums here as well so pretty much only posts in the ren section now, which apparently is predominantly stupid hip-hop producers lol (no shots)

I agree with that.

I saw that -level of debate ruined again.

Peeps werent allowed to post comments except for in the Hip Hop forum. You could seemingly get banned if you spoke of the 'R' out with communist (moderators) dictators parameters. Talk about a bit of power going to someone's head. Yep, Jah - electronic forum - avoid - ass kicked - noob free zone etc

this is sort of an interesting development.

maschine does 'vintage mode' by modelling the actual electronic components used in the original machine. serious mathematics going on there.

the ren is just using a couple presets of a bitcrusher tuned to different values?
the same bitcrusher included as a free plugin?

damn.

IHMO i had the maschine enviroment for around 4 years, first the mk1 and later the mk2 (untill a couple of months ago).

To my years the mpc 60 emulation was very poor, bsides i really liked the sp1200 one.

Contrary i dont like to much the 1200 on the REN but i do a lot the mpc 60 emulation.

But to me this is not the point, the argument is that they said a gigantic lie tu us because theres no mpc circuitry inside the controller and the emulation is just software based.

The ren audiocard affect the sound as could do an m-audio fast track pro...and the good news is that this m-audio interface cost us 700$ while is worth 200$.

And dont forget about the "mpc studio lie" that "cant use the emulation because it does not have the infamuos mpc circuitry", while in the install folder you got the same vst as the REN (and of course you cant use them for unknow reason).

Thats not drama, nor offending someone or get emotional, just the sad truth.

That is surprising, I would have expected some sort of IR/convolusion type effect, where it mathematically models the response of the circuit to an impulse, the changes to that impulse signal after it has gone through the circuit, and applies those same changes to other signals.

That is a little different to modelling the actual circuit and components, and running a signal through that model.

That would also be surprising, if correct, I would have expected an IR/convolusion effect, as above, rather than just a bit reduction plugin.

Hermit_Crab wrote:Jah is right. Anybody that didn't understand the software/hardware thing from the beginning were simply not paying close enough attention. The information was there all along.

The so called analogue circuitry of the 3000 is the hardware "vintage mode" so to speak. And the actual vintage mode, which is totally separate and has nothing to do with the other is software. I understood this from the start, so no excuses for others not picking up on it.

PERSONAL ATTACK DELETED

the majority of us all claimed that the vintage emulation was strictly software from the beginning and people like jah and other employees denied it to the death claiming that it was the hardware outputs of the ren that gave it a certain sound as well... that it used mpc3000 outputs etc... my point is that THE FORUM was claiming that emulation was software only while the akai marketing team was trying to convince everyone otherwise... now we all find out it's 100% software [as we'd always suspected] and the akai fools are claiming they never said what they did... GTFOOHWTBS. if you were really paying attention you'd know exactly what the rest of us are talking about... but you're too busy defending jah.

I couldn't care less about Jah or vintage mode. I have an SP 1200, an EPS and an ASR 10. I don't need no damn vintage mode. Whether any of the circuitry is the same as the MPC 3000, I have no idea. But it was however clear to me from the start that the vintage mode was software and the 3000 "circuitry" was something unrelated. I gathered this by simply watching the videos as they came out.

I thought this thread was about Vintage Mode Marketing......

In a balanced response....at least 1 or 2 product specialists misrepresented what the Ren could or couldn't do during Namm 2012. I found it amusing since I was actually testing the software at the time.

However, Dan quickly clarified in detail (video already posted) what the Ren was. In every video since, it was very clear. The marketing on Akai's website as well as the boxes the Ren ships in are clear.

You have to start questioning folks reading and listening comprehension abilities if they are still confused at this point.

to be fair - as far as we can honestly tell the SP12 ring mod is the only one thats like that.. the other 3 are not saved bitcrusher presets..

lets just put it this way.. they use clever wording..

...but worded in such a way as to still put the onus on Akai to define "3000's Analogue Circuitry", at least from a consumer awareness standpoint, although perhaps not a legal standpoint.

I'm not saying they did this (wouldn't put it past them though) but legally the way that's worded it could be as basic as they both have 1/4" analog outs. They don't specify AD or anything of that nature, although of course they knew that would be assumed by even mentioning it.

It doesn't matter what Akai said, how they wrote it...everybody knows that visits this forum on a regular basis 'someone' will find something to hate, berate, or instigate (I use to emcee back in the day  ) nonsense.

Everything Akai has advertised is in plain, easy to understand English. I think if you misunderstand what they wrote...chances are you have reason (valid or otherwise) for not wanting to see the obvious.
