Using an MPC5k screen for a OSXL128 Screen?

If you keep up on the 5k boards, you probably heard about my adventures in Cat Piss Tickle Extravaganza Time.

So, I have a non-working mpc5k, but the screen works just fine. My 1k gets dropped off today, and I've been sitting here sweating this 128LCD screen. Then I look over and realize...I have a 240x128 screen sitting riiiiight here.


Would I be able to transplant this screen onto the 1k? Is there some sort of different chassis or something I'd need?


Also, how would this apply to the 2500? I feel like one of those is one its way, honestly.

I can't speak to the LCD thing, but damn I would love to know. Sounds like a dope project.

Also, I know we spoke about this in another thread but I just picked up a 2500LE with JJOSXL and damn, I'm in love. And that's coming from a devout 4K user. While the 4K is still the best MPC of all time, the 2500 with JJOSXL is just too damn dope workflow wise. Its a throwback to my days on the 2000XL with modern day upgrades. If you like the 1K you have, and I assume you are going to get JJOSXL, you'll love the 2500 as well.

And with all that being said, coming from the 4K and now loving the 2500, I've been sweating that XLCD screen too! Feel like I need that joint!

Yeah, I remember talking about that...and I think I spoke too early. The 1k that I'm getting today is just to tide me over. That 2500, with a big screen is pretty much everything I wanted my 5k to be while getting rid of all the crap Akai screwed up beyond repair (like that stupid synth). Well played, man...you mentioning it is what got me thinking. All the control I realisitcally need and a better OS.


The connections are definitely the same, I'm betting its the same screen (from looking at it vs pictures) but with a different chasis. The 5Ks isn't going to work, from what I can see (if nothing else, the chasis for the screen is way too big to fit into the hole for the 1ks lcd).

So it now dawns on me. Sell the screen for what a regular xlcd goes for or just try to make something?

I personally never used the 5K. I was interested in it at one point but hearing about all the horror stories really put a damper on it for me. If you can't mod the 5K screen to fit the 1K/2500, you'd probably be better off selling the 5K for parts and using that cash to invest in whatever you need next, like an XLCD.

Edit: One thing is for sure, we probably shouldn't talk anymore because now you have me fiending for the XLCD like I got you stuck on the 2500! I gotta check out the differences between 128XL and JJOSXL because there are certain things on JJOSXL that I, now, can't live without!

just to make sure you know, the 1k and the 25k are essentially the same machine. they run the same jjos with extremely minor differences to account for the hardware differences.

the 2500 is superior than the 1k because it has more midi and audio outputs -- but only if you use those functions.

you should contact mike at mpcstuff to see what he thinks about the screen transplant.

Thanks Nym. Yeah, I'm getting that they're the same machine but with exactly what you said, which is exactly what I need. I can live without the adat out I guess (I know I'm weird, but adat i/o out of my dps24 is insanely nice), but the 2 extra midi outs is essential.

Also, I'm in the market for a DPS24! Seems like we are trying to build the same setup! I already have the 2500 and you already have the DPS!

I believe MPCstuff also buys broken and used MPC's.

Your 1000 + the broken 5 should easy trade for one of their refurbished 25's IMO.
