Vista Midi out problem?

Has anyone had issues sending midi out from Vista? I use Presonus Studio One with Microsoft Vista, and cant seem to send any midi info to my MPC1000. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

What MIDI and or Audio interface are you using? That would be more likely the thing to troubleshoot before the OS itself. (Vista handles MIDI just like XP and 7/8 and I've never had that issue as an OS related one.)

Although there is one thing that can happen, not sure if it applies here. I think it's a limit of 16 MIDI entries that Windows will allow and write to the registry. When you swap to different USB ports with MIDI enabled gear (those random "why did the driver just re-install itself situations), it writes a new entry.

After the 16 are full it won't write new ones unless you manually delete the dupes or ones you no longer use (old gear maybe).

Not sure if that has any bearing on your issue but it's the only thing I know off on an OS level that will stop your MIDI broadcast dead in it's tracks.

I gotta run, but I'll come back and post how and where the settings are. (Or maybe Google Windows+MIDI registry+limits and you should find something if you want to investigate that).

But also please post more about your Studio One and MPC MIDI settings just so the forum can visaualize the "puzzle" better.

I have the lexicon Lambda interface, and also a 25 key midi to usb keyboard(Axiom). I can play midi notes and trigger drums and stuff with the axiom device. I have tried both midi outs to the mpc midi in and have the mpc set to slave with recieve mmc on, and also have selected each device in studio one's midi out settings, and selected send midi clock. thought that would do it.

The thing about Vista is that in the control panel there are no midi settings, and i thought i would have to chose one there also.

Well no Windows OS has a MIDI control panel. It's definitely a feather in OS X's cap that Core MIDI and IAC are standard.

People install stuff like MIDI-Ox and CopperLan to have extra "virtual" MIDI ports and a control panel that can show some routing. But I don't know that a third party MIDI app is needed in this case as the MIDI sync/connection you are attempting is as straight forward as can be.

If you want to trouble shoot the Lambda, maybe try to simply put the 1000's MIDI out to the Lambda MIDI In, and try to set up a VST/MIDI track in Studio One and see if the pads can play a synth. You don't need to syn anything there just try to get a MIDI input confirmed.That's the fastest way to check if it's the Lambda acting weird and maybe a clue to look at those registry entries and see if the limit was crossed.

I will be back in a couple hours and try to go into more detail. I know a few Studio One users so maybe I'll pick their brains if needed. And a few people here use it. (There's like 2 threads on this in a Google search. One is here and has nothing, the other is '09 @ Presonus and also offers no real help)
