If it is a bad cable Best Buy is the most likely place to buy one in person. For mail order Newegg.com is a great vendor.

If you need photos of the interior cables/components in case the video you used isn't clear enough, I'll open mine up and get some flicks for you.

The other guys in this thread are more versed in all this, but again if you need flicks I have a screwdriver 3 feet from mine so...

I know I fuc+ed up! My fault! What I did was I pulled out the little grey digital cable that goes to the cd rom and plugged it back in, thing is my power cable was still in the mpc plugged into the wall cuz I forgot to take it out after powering it off. Now it turns on but no screen display. I think I shorted it or maybe screwed the mb.. Hope not.. Thanks again

UPDATE MY SCREEN IS BACK ALIVE THX TO MY MAN FROM THE ATL ! THAT WAS ALMOST A DISASTER, NOW IF I COULD GET THIS DArN CD DRIVE FIXED...

I am so glad to hear that the LCD is up again man. When I read that it was only the minute amount of AC a powered down AC plug pulls I kept my fingers crossed.

Best Buy seemed to have all the standard PC type ribbons, IDE, molex and all that, so hopefully you get running today/tonight.

Thus, you are not seeing the digital option. You can only record from the CD drive in an analog manner.

There was a post about this a while back. I had the same issue because I took the digital in/out from a Z4 and put it in my MPC4000. The Z4 did not have the small digital cable. So I ended up getting the cable through another means. I thought any small digital cable would do but that is not the case. I bought one on ebay and it would not fit. I subsequently bought another digital i/o that had the cable.

Sampling from the cd digitally will sound better than if you do so analog.

Hey ian My 4000 does not have that cable you first pointed out that needs to be unconnected. Im wondering if I need it to go to the cd rom slave input.

Final UPDATE! I HAVE SUCCESSFULLY INSTALLED THE LATEST OS AMD FIXED MY CD ROM INTERNAL SAMPLING PROBLEM! THANKS GUYSZZ!

PS. it was just the jumpers that needed to be turned on ... Thanks again

What MPCdawk said is true...I just opened my machine and moved the jumper on the digital board so that it was on the two prongs furthest from the back side of the MPC and the digital In option does not show on the record screen.

Nice one MPCDAWK!

SO for clarification the jumper has to be in covering the two prongs closest to the back of the machine on the digital board to record from a cd digitally.
