Did I get a good deal?

I've been thinking about buying an MPC 1000 and last night I saw one newly listed on eBay and bought it for $225.

It was a blue one, with some scratches in the pictures. Came with a 128mb upgrade ram and stock CF card, USB cable, etc. According to the seller it worked perfectly.

Does this sound like a good deal for someone starting out?

Also, how can I put my turntables into the MPC? I have a mixer with RCA outputs, will that work?

Yeah, $225 is a great deal on a blue MPC1000 w/128MB ram, assuming it's all in working order.

Okay, because I understand the blues have some sort of problem with the pads? If that's the case, what wil it take to fix it?

Pads are not great, feel hard and eventually may fail. I have a blue 1000 that's still fine though.

Anyway, new pads are $180 from MPCStuff, so even if you need those eventually, it's still an okay deal.

From what I understand you want to have your turntable plugged into an amp(unless your mixer has phono input)and then the amp plugged into the mixer along with the mpc and any synths or other sampling sources. That way you can hear everything and when it comes time to sample just use the aux send to send all the turntable signal to the sampling inputs of the mpc if monitor is on you should hear the sound from the mpc. Now if you wanted to record your synths just put the turntable aux send back to zero and then send all the synth signal out the aux send. This way you won't ever have to plug and plug anything.

Yeah that will work. The issue on a turntable is the low level of the signal so it needs a phono pre-amp. But a mixer with a phono switch/grounding screw has you covered. But yes an RCA to 1/4" cable or 2 mono adapters and you're all set.

Dopeness man. Like Tutor said even if you need a full price pad upgrade you still got a great deal. 300+ pieces at your fingertips to sample...have a blast man, I know you will.

I recently picked up another MPC... blue 1K for $300 locally. I was half-expecting it to be banged up but the dude who I bought it from was really on point... took care of his stuff. Turned out the MPC was almost brand f*cking new, he's had it in the box all ready to go for almost two years. No scratches/smudges on anything... no upgrades either though. Have to do all that me self.

On top of getting a great deal you also got a great deal on them records.
Having a big collection like that right off the bat is really nice!

sounds like a dope deal to me. Just make sure that you do a soundcheck first. bring a pair of headphones and play around with it for a couple min to see if its working for you. I wish I did that with mine. I was really dissapointed at the pads and the fact that I had an outdated operating system. all of this of course can be easily fixed. but now I have to cough up some $$$
