Reviews and questions about the entry-level MPC500

Yo guys. was wondering if you could help me out.
My mpc will run off batteries but not my power supply.
I pulled it apart so i could test the terminal that the power supply fits in to, turns out it is receiving power. the chip it supplies is getting power too.

is there any sort of pseudobattery (battery shape but runs off mains power) that i can run it off

any ideas aside from getting a repairman?

i have a 12v 1.5 A power supply.
it is graded. which means it will adjust it amperage to fit the 600 mA that the MPC needs.
its not the originial PSU that came with it and it has worked off of it before

I suppose you could connect the power supply leads directly to the battery terminals. Make sure you use a multimeter to test which is positive and negative or you'll probably fry something.

Already tried. No luck. Dont know why it wouldnt work like that. Thanks heaps for the suggestion.
Much appreciated

Possibly each pair of batteries may be separately wired and then "summed" together internally. That makes it harder to put together a dummy power pack--still can be done, but requires some additional wiring.

Now that I look at it more closely, it should be possible by connecting to the two terminals (negative and positive) on the right side (when looking at the back of the unit). Did you try to make connection to those?

You might be able to make a dummy 2x3 AA battery pack from AAA to AA converters; they are basically hollow shells in the shape of AA batteries (http://www.miniinthebox.com/popular/aaa-to-aa-battery-adapter.html).

You'll have to figure out how to wire them up to the power plug leads though. Soldering to the ends would be the most straightforward.

UPDATE!!!

I recently contacted my friend who i last lent my mpc 500 to.
He stated that all he did was plug it into the power point, turn it on and play around with it. He said it powered up fine and everything (I think that is only because it had batteries in it), he then went on to tell me that his keyboard wouldn't run off power either after he plugged it into that power point. although he thought it was a dodgy power supply not a dodgy power point. So confirmation; my friend fried my circuitry, luckily enough, only the ones related to the main power intake.

Can any hit me up with some info?

Have you tested your power supply to see if it is outputting what it should? Hopefully there's a fuse in there that got fried instead of the 500.

I know it is putting out the right voltage. Not 100% about the amperage though.

General tip, don't plug AC/DC plugs into equipment that has removable alkaline batteries installed. Take the batteries out before plugging into a wall.

Why? It definitely wasn't the batteries fault my friend confirmed the power point fried his keyboard's mains power intake.

I looked, you're right it makes no difference on the 500. I've had a lot of other things that take batteries or wall power and unlike the 500 they warned to not have both at the same time, so I just follow that generally. I see now the 500 defaults to the plug when both are present.

I think the chip that tells it to draw power is whats fried. Ive got the schematics does anyone know what the name of the chip would be
